I've got Philips X-Treme vision in mine

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-X-tr.../dp/B00440CWBW

Still a 55W lamp, but they burn hotter so less life, but definitely brighter.

Another thing that myself and other members have done is to wire the dip and full beams together

as detailed in this thread:

I installed an Osram Night Breaker. Better visibility with minor action, at a low price. More or less same stuff as the Philips X-Treme.

I have done simualr but run the osram night rider as itx brighter and designed for bikes so better with high vibration

This worth a read. Couldn't find the original RIDE article (2010), but this annotated version gives a fairly good insight into the differences between the main headlamp bulb manufacturers based on the results of a relatively scientific test using an FZ1 headlamp unit.

Perhaps not surprising was that the OE Yamaha bulb was crap, but they also found Halford's own brand bulbs to be pretty rubbish too - there's one to avoid I guess...
