Very interesting thoughts guys, thanks!!!!

I have tried the MT07 and MT09 and both engines are incredible.
The MT09 could be a serious contender to the 1200 bikes: same power but it works nearly as a 4 cilynders. IMHO it works better than the 1200 twin of the Super Ten.
The MT07 seems to be the logical engine for an adventure bike, really nice at low revs but it has power enough to be fun.
Mi only concern is that if Yamaha build this bike they stop the singles and this could be a shame... I love my XT660Z!!!

I think they will stop making them in 2016. I just can't see them adding ABS to the XTX and XTR (mandatory in 2016 in EU).

The biggest Yamaha dealer I know just ditched the XTX spot in his shop for an MT09 street racer special edition thing and doesn't even have it on display anymore.

They are a very rare sight on the road these days.

I'd love it if they came out with a new more powerful single cyclinder and evolve the XT 660 to something like the KTM 690.

They could make a proper hooligan supermoto and a proper fast dual sport.

Read a artical a while back...
they stated that only 20% of the larger
ADV bikes ever see any dirt/gravel action
So ADV bikes aimed at more offroad use
is not where the market is...
So basicly road bikes made to look like a ADV
like what Honda is doing with there CB500/CBX500
& NC700/NCX700.. Even the new Africa Twin looks
as it aimed at more road than offroad...
Hope Yamaha dosn't go down this road with any new
ADV bike..

Other than KTM the Tiger XC800 is prob the best bigger ADV
(What I call a ADV bike) bike out there at the moment..

I'm pretty sure that the XTX is no longer avaliable here in Oz. XTR & XTZ or still on the showroom floor. There is a new Yamaha Dealer in Rockhampton which a friend of mine was sniffing around in, and talking to the salesman they hadn't sold ANY bikes for over 2 months.
The Dealer I got my Z from near me sold a few Z's while this place was booming but had wheeled the one I bought in & out the shop for nearly 2 years. He hadn't stocked an XTR for years as they where nearly double the price of a DR 650.
His big sellers are WR's, MT's & KTM's.

As XTX rider I'd be thoroughly disappointed if the X was to be stopped, means I'm more likely to hold onto mine now though :)

All those saying that the Mt-07 is the replacement for it, I don't really see the equivalence there. I look at it and see the Suzuki Gladius more than a supermoto style bike. The seat doesn't allow for the upfront over the front wheel seating position that I get with XTX, handlebars are too far back from the front wheel.

Id rather see an XT690X with the MT-07 engine come to the market. But I can imagine that's wishful thinking. It wouldn't even need much of a change to the style as it already has the two exhausts :)

The XTX is no longer listed on the NZ importers web site...

XTX and XTR are no longer listed on the UK site...

I suppose that's it then

The more I hear of the current XT's coming to a close, the more attached I feel towards my own Tenere as it seems I'm nurtchering an endangered species.

I've got a couple of Newkie Browns sitting in the fridge at home so I'll raise a glass or two to a legend later. :045:

At Yamaha Europe and YamahaNL the XT660R and X are still available, next to the XT660Z Tenere(in several variations!). But who knows for how long, will there be replacements in the near future? Time will tell, hope there will be a XT700Z Tenere twin, that'll be interesting for sure!
