Mid Wales
This doesn't seem to be the most active area of the forum, particularly where Uk travel is concerned. I thought Wonderingwaltons idea of a RTE gathering was a great idea and if I'd been aware at the time I'd have been on my way.
Having run a forum previously I found that gatherings were a great way to put faces to names and were generally a great laugh. The less formal, the better. I'm based in Mid Wales and would be more than happy to show riders around this stunning part of our isle but it would be interesting to here peoples' thoughts on what would make a good days riding and who would be interested in having an informal day out in Wales. Cheers |
It's a fair trek from me (South East London) but hardly unachievable! Could well be up for it.

This is a cracking place for weekend rideouts. I have organised a few myself plus it's very popular with the KTM and GS forum guys.
Here's a little video from back in 2010 http://vimeo.com/11983651 |
I would be up for it. Looking forward to see what Wales can offer! :)
Living in London, to make the trip worth, it would be great if it would be at least a 2 days of riding around there. |
Wales is awesome to ride both on and off road and I haven't even scratched the surface yet. I ride there a bit and often make a weekend camping of it. Turn up friday night, few beers, off road saturday, few beers, head home the scenic route sunday.
I'd be up for a weekend forum meet up in Wales anytime. I tend to use a couple of campsites as I know they don't mind bikers and will let you have a fire! One is just down the road from Builth Wells and the other is just outside Bala - but there are shed loads around. I don't really know the lanes that well as my mate is a human GPS and I follow him, but I'm sure there are a few on here who do... |
All sounds good to me :walk1:

and me....lets fire some dates into a calendar . as unfortunately this seems to always be the deciding factor.....but gets people planning
yes please lake bala a good starting point |
Dont forget the Taffy Dakar
Bank Holiday May 2nd - 5th so dont get the dates clashed , a great chance to ride the trails of South Wales http://www.taffydakar.org.uk/news/ https://www.facebook.com/TaffyDakar?ref=hl Nice little video of the XT froum rideout i organised along with richardracingmad |
Ok, thanks for the great response so far.
I'm thinking in terms of a totally informal gathering and I don't want to clash with any other events. In the first instance, so that outings are available to all riders, stick to the black stuff. I have a catalogue of stunning roads in my head. One or two days is fine by me. I know many of the trails in and around mid Wales but some of these require fairly accomplished off road skills. I want to be sure that everyone has an enjoyable experience and off road can be pretty hard going, especially when things go wrong. If we were looking at two days I'd look at putting a route together In and around Snowdonia Nat Park, around 200 miles. Second day, head for Mid Wales Including the Elan Valley and and some coast road. Probably around the same distance. I'd suggest being based around the Welshpool area. If you don't like the sound of any of this I'm happy to look at alternative ideas. If you like the sound of this but have concerns that you don't want to advertise, feel free to pm. |

OK, obviously, its important to me that whoever comes along has a good time and the rides are enjoyable. I know some need to have two days riding to make the journey to Wales worthwhile but in the first instance I'll propose one days riding on either the weekend of March the 1st or 8th assuming conditions are suitable. I'll suggest a Saturday in case you want to save Sunday for home journeys but I don't mind which day.
Start and finish at Welshpool. The intended route will be a mixture A, B and unclassified (all asphelt) roads. Distance; 200 miles aprox. Will take in Vyrnwy, Bala, Ogwen Valley, Llanberis Pass, Beddgelert, Harlech and Dolgellau. Throughout the route there is stunning scenery and some fantastic roads. I think it should be an interesting outing and will give me a chance to get some feedback. If needed I will organise an accomodation list if you let me know what you need. Obviously everything can be adjusted to suite at this stage so let me know if this sounds rubbish :) |
sorry mike can,t do them dates on 70 hours a week till end of march then going to the caneries for a jolly.

I am interested on either of the dates but will most likely be working the Friday nighshift so will either envolve a early am ride from Midlands straight after work to sleep on camp or come down sat morning after ive had a few hours sleep dependant on how busy the friday night is.
Eitherway sounds like a good reason to get camping gear out |
Just wondering any further decisions on this meet as to what weekend it will be and where we camping please let me know as im up for either weekend but just want to get my plans in order I can google campsites in the area if we not got one sorted see whats about
