Removing stock silencer on 660z
What do I need to remove to get the silencer off my 2013 660z
|
You'll first need to remove the tail section in order to then get the plastic heat shield affair off the silencer (after removing the seat, grab rails and gray plastics). You can then loosen the clamp on the pipe and undo the bolts under the seat to remove the silencer itself.
Most of the silencer removal procedure is described pictorially in this thread (just ignore the bits about the shock absorber!) |
Cheers mate that's awesome, looks like a nice 5 min job....:(
|
Bit longer than 5 mins, but not beyond the realms of even a n00b like me :)
The tail is a bit of a pain in the arse to dismantle, and the exhaust weighs a good few kilos but as long as i have pretty pictures to follow, i can do anything! |
I got pissed off with having to take so much off so I cut the heat shield a bit so now I can slip it off without taking anything else off. You can't see it from the outside.

I then use watrrpump pliers (good ones like the knippex ones shown) to undo the bolts sitting in this right spot. Not good practice but I like shortcuts. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l3...e/P1010690.jpg |
You have to take out the bolts that are already removed in the pic above so you can jiggle it side to side so you can get a grip.
Of course if you could just slide the exhaust back enough and drop it down it would be great but its one more thing the designer forgot! Love the bike but every time you want to do something half of it needs taking apart! |
