Previous Owner Disconnected the AIS....

I have a 2004 XT660R - totally standard or so i thought.

It has an "00" ECU, and also the old type TPS. The TPS is down for a warranty replacement, just waiting for the new part to come into stock.

I noticed the other day that the AIS has been unplugged electrically from behind the horn. I dont know if the pipes have been blocked or not.

What would happen if i was to plug it back in? Would the bike run leaner?

As it stands i have no surging at all, though the bike does pop and what not on the overrun. Any advise guys?? :whisper:

if i remember correctly if you unplug it it leaves that valve open pouring air into you're exhaust hence the popping on mine i have left it plugged in but blocked the pipe as when i researched on here it sounded best to do . its made the bike more responsive and dosen pop all the time that's if youre running after market cans because if youre on standard cans its best left pluged in and working as it makes the cat get to the correct temperature quicker prolonging its lie

Thanks for the reply - do all XT's have cats on then no matter the year?

I will try reconnecting the valve today and see what the bike is like on the way home from work. I only commute a few miles and so the quicker the bike warms the better. I read the AIS thread but there so many opinions it gets quite confusing :)

As far as im aware all standard pipes on them have cats. Mine is blocked off for running my akropvics but ive gone back to standard for winter i case i drop it and my ais is still blocked off and my commute about 5 city miles and by time im home it sounds hot clicking and banging when i turn it off (but im not bothered about my cats anyway tempted to cut them out )

Well reconnecting the AIS has made a massive difference to the bike. I seem to have lost the engine braking i had before, and the bike is alot smoother on a very part throttle, i guess in part due to the fact there isnt as much engine braking now.

Weird but certainly alot better around town, though the bike has lost some of it's "character"; Its staying connected from now on :D
