Wow new Yamahas.....

Has anyone seen the new MT 09 Street Rally http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/produc...950&quality=75
as well as the new MT07???

Goodness, are Yamaha waking up??????

Pleiades 05-11-13 14:23

The MT-07 engine's debut was what I was waiting to see from Yamaha. On paper, as with the 09, it looks good in every way.

Not sure it will work in an XT690 though? With its chunky wet sump and bulky DOHC top end it makes for a very tall motor. It'll would be difficult to accommodate in an off-road style frame and maintain an effective balance between ground clearance and low centre of gravity...

MT 09
I trading in my FZ8 for one, and its nearly 5 times as better,
I've only done 600 miles so far, and I can't fault it,
besides the tyres.
the main thing I love about the bike is the size and weight,
the seat is hard but I've done a 200 mile round trip had no problems,
lights and brakes are good,
the tyres, well, due to the cold weather, I don't trust them just yet, come the summer dry roads, there will come good I am sure.
the drive modes, are a waste of time, but this is the future.
if you get a chance, take a test ride,.
I done a few mods, got a tail tidy and a flysrceen, its looks the dog b******k
will post some photo s once ive learnt how to do it.

The MT07 looks really good value and the specs are pretty decent. Almost enough for me to come out of riding retirement!

I tried the MT 09 and wowowowow what fun!!!! GREAT bike even in standard form and the engine is simply fantastic. I ordered one.

Awsome, you wont regret it, the power is very smooth in all modes, even in mode B , u can pull a wheely.

but I must say, I am not selling my xt.

Kev 15-12-13 07:06

I already have my O2 Controller running on the MT-09, we have done 2500kms of testing with the controller so far.
:bowling:

mudrock 15-12-13 10:56

Hi Kev,

I can only dream of doing 2500k,

I've only own my MT09 now for 4 weeks, and done 600 miles,
Buying a new bike in October is not a good idea, the roads are dirty, salty and slippery, roll on the summer .

How are you finding the MT Kev, now yours is run in? I've had the first service done, now I will have to wait another 400 miles before I can openn it up.

Kev 15-12-13 17:28

The MT-09 is a mates at work, motor is vey good pulls like a train for it's size, great fuel consumption around 22kms/L of fuel so far.

Have they sorted the fuelling out on the MT-09s for the general public? The lack of smoothness on/off the throttle was the one and only thing universally criticised on the press bikes at the launch. Ironically they reckoned that it was least jerky in the B mode?

I can see why Kev's O2 controller would help.

mudrock 16-12-13 15:47

Imho. riding the demo bike I felt no fueling issue's.
On my bike. As its my pride and joy . Ive not taken it pass 6000 rpm and I've been riding it in standard mode most of time.

After riding the xtx anything is smooth. I am glad I didnt listen to MCN

Here's my MT in Race blue, tail tidy and fly screen.

Pleiades 19-12-13 21:33

 Nice!

I really like them, but the area above the headlight still puzzles me; it kind of looks as though somethings missing on the standard bike? Or, maybe its just Yamaha's way of saying you NEED to buy the accessory fly screen (or the whole Street Rally kit) - which you have done! ;)

To be fair to More Crap than News, the snatchy fuelling at low speeds in 'STD' and 'A' modes was picked up on by every single one of the journalists at the launch.

Kev 20-12-13 01:08

The snatchyness is the way they mapped the throttle, there is no power difference between A & B modes on the Dyno, the difference is A mod has a faster cam mapped into the ECU when compared to B mode.

We fitting a DNA filter tomorrow to the MT-09.

Interesting,

But IMO i don't any issue's with the fueling, its joy to ride slow or fast.

I put a DNA filter i had on my xtx, it had printed on the front, NOT FOR ROAD USE, so, if i had an accident on the bike and the insurance company checked over the bike, they would cancel the policy, so i took it off, has the MT -09 DNA filter got the same print?

Kev 21-12-13 12:53

I would grind off the not for road use off the filter.:icon_lol:

DNA Filter fitted + air box mods all done the MT-09 this morning = better roll acceleration.

I am with on that one, and it looks like a good price, but when is it in the UK?

foggy 22-12-13 17:51

I have been thinking of buying the ABS version, but have been put off by all the reviewers mentioning the snatchy delivery.

Will a Power Commander or similar sort it out, or is the bike stuck with the snatchy delivery?

My question to you is, how do get on with your xt?
mine is rough as u like, but I enjoy riding it, riding the MT09, it feels like a good um, very smooth.

Try one , and you will find its nothing to worry about.
