Motorcycle Gear Indicators
Evening all, can anyone recommend a gear indicator that is cost effective and easy to fit to a XT660 Z. There is to much to choose from on ebay, and electrics is not my thing. Appreciate the feedback.

It is probably only 4 & 5 you can be in doubt if there is another one or not, right ?
Then just make a mental note at how many rpm you are doing at your normal cruise speed or make a small maker on the rpm counter where it is supposed to be at i.e, 80 or 110km/h In the smaller gears it does'nt matter. If the rpm is to low gear down. If above 4000rpm and accelerating gear up :-) |
Cheap 'n' Cheerful
Just be wary that the cheaper (mostly chinese) gear indicators on ebay are mechanically actuated by the gear lever and are a bit "Heath Robinson", partuclarly in the way the mechanism works. The Middle Ground The Acumen ones are reasonably priced, but are pretty laggy, slow to react and can be easy confused. At the Sharp End The best are the Glpro X-Type. Fast reacting, easy to setup and unlike most you get a bike specific wiring kit (GPX-Y01 for the XT660) with the right plug on it for the speedo-ECU sensor connector. Not the cheapest though. In a nutshell, you pay for what you get with gear indicators... |
It just so happens I have a brand new one of these for sale....

Thanks for the replies, food for thought I guess 100 can be put to better needed use on the bike. Sandman thanks for the offer, but no thanks.
I have just watched a vid on you tube how to fit that bad boy .......:hb: At the end of the day I need to tune in to the engine a bit more. |

You know it makes sense :045: |
I've only ever had one bike with gear indicator and I have to say I never really looked at it. My BSA hasn't even got a neutral light! Mind you you only have to count to 4 on that though.
You just get used to what you've got. It'll become second nature after a while. |
Hehehehe I have one on my R1 cos it has 6 speeds and I never remember where the hell I am cos it pulls yer arms off even in 6th.........but would not bother on the XT....
|
Had one on my GSXR 750 K6 and never looked at it on a hard ride out don't get time to look or at the speedo hehe, a true rider should not need one the music off the pipe should give it way and the feel off her "two should be come one :HappyRoll_ANPIUI:"
Don't waste your cash pal spend it on up grade stage 1 and 2 air filters...etc |
