Forth day and from looks of the morning sky it looks like is will be a cracker.
Camping Domaine Loisirs De L'ubaye - D900 nr. Les Thuiles https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E...923_084710.JPG We decided last night to head for Savines Le Lac for breakfast. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X...DAY%252004.JPG En route to Savines we skipped a turning as the road we were on was fun http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/sm...ike_smilie.gif . We stopped at the top to find where we were and more importantly an alternative for morning coffee. http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/sm..._surprised.gif D9008 Overlooking Lac de Serre Poncon https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-c...923_091416.JPG As a fan of alternative energies I was pleasantly surprisedto to see this solar farm. The picture doesn't really show the scale of it. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-N...923_091446.JPG New route was to be via Chorges and, the D3 turned out to be lovely little road to it. A visitor centre provided a nice fag stop. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g...923_094316.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-v...923_094341.JPG ....and the view was'nt bad either. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6...923_094353.JPG No suitable place at Chorges for refreshments so, we continued. However, what really intrigued me was the massive bunch of inflated balloons in the back of of Land Rover (answers on SAE please). https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-J...923_105628.JPG Col de Moissiere https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g...923_105612.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-t...923_105430.JPG Cafe's are obvioulsly a bit of rariaty on our route as we still hadn't past one since we left the campsite. We looked... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-u...923_112816.JPG .....nothing so onward and upwards. We did a roadside fashion shoot ! https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Y...923_114543.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Q...923_114614.JPG Phil was really feeling the lack of caffine. |
We stopped of in Die. I had too. On my last in this area trip I didn't get there and promised I would "Die another Day"
http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/lol_sign.gif (sorry but I find it funny).
The bikes were parked at the cafe where we were eating and, we could see them from our table. At one point a young lad came over to Phil and asked if the Yam was his bike as, Phil had left the keys in the ignition. In between mouthfuls of food Phil said it was fine as he could see the bike clearly and, you couldn't move the Tener without moving my ride anyway. We continued eating, drank more coffee and paid the bill. As we mounted ready to pull off Phil asked if I had seen his sunglasses; vintage Raybans http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/unsure.gif . No I replied and we checked his bike for them - Nothing. The young lad who had came over was a distraction whilst his mates who were also hanging around the bikes had made off with them - http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/angry.gif *******s! Next stop was the supermarket for a replacement pair. We continued across the Drome, The Rhone and into the Ardeche. I wanted to stop at the camp-site I knew just before Privas. Phil did'nt http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/slap.gif I was grumpy (tired and dehydrated looking back on it ) spat the dummy and told him to take the lead and find a f*$% site .....******. I followed Phil through the HOT traffic laden Privas and beyond. An hour later we had a alternative and, a good one at that, much better the one I wanted to stop at http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/surrender.gif (doesn't mean Phil was right ). Its the fifth day of our little trip. We are on a basic camp-site (which we can both recommend) in St Michel de Boulogne in a forested location in the Ardeche. Over a brew before we set off we discuss today's destination.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G...2008.13.35.jpg We both agree that that the past 4 days riding have been exhilarating, fun and memorable but our bodies are saying time for break......homeward bound it is http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/wavecry.gif https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-z...DAY%252005.JPG The first part of the mornings riding is on narrow twisty forest roads which gradually lead us up onto the D122. This road followed the ridge along the top of hills and made for some fun riding. We came across a structure that intrigued us. Plane Crash in 1971 Memorial - Col de Mezililhac https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4...924_092538.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4...924_092605.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-z...924_092614.JPG A little further down this road was my first Hot Chocolate of the trip. Yes the sun was shining but there still a chill in the morning air. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-e...924_094919.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0...924_094923.JPG We were soon waving goodbye to the Ardeche and entering the Haute Loire. Phil was surprise the Loire came this far ! http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/sm...uh2_smilie.gif https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-F...924_102558.JPG Morning Mist Burning off - D275 nr. Freycenet la Tour https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9...924_102521.JPG Just past Le Puy, Phil spotted a castle and homed in on it. We couldn't ride up to it so parked, had a coffee and viewed it from a short distance. Polignac https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-q...924_110819.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9...924_110904.JPG Phils "nutter magnet" was working again as some on chap driving a "drunks car" had homed in on him. Time to leave. Nearly the Cantal now it was lunchtime and we were hungry so a "Plat de jour" was in order at Lavoute Chilhac. The first place we tried was closed. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N...924_121827.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n...924_122300.JPG But were recommended another close by. We ate. Lavoute Chilhac https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...924_121858.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-k...924_121915.JPG Replete, we were off into the afternoon sun across the sometimes gravely roads of the D123. |
The giant wind farms cast sinister rotating shadows onto the road. I was following 200 metres behind Phil. As I came out of my turn Phil was entering his. Then, I see Phil doing what looked like a cartwheel and his bike sliding upder him. - f*$% it didn't look pretty and I had that feeling as if **** is pumped through your veins.
As I pulled up Phil was already back on his feet, a good sign - Phew. I parked up the side of the road and we both moved Phils bike over to mine. Off Due to Heavy Gravel on Road https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-O...924_134549.JPG Luckily Phil escaped with a few cuts and bruises and, he screamed like a girl when I applied some antiseptic to his knee( to any girls out there - ITS JUST AN EXPRESSION! - we all know your pain tolerance is higher than us blokes http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/smilies/whistle.gif ) . Thanks to protection, his bike had no serious damage apart from having to put the spring back on his side stand. A tobacco plantation later we were under way and riding through the Cantal. Side stand dug inti swing arm https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-a...o/IMG_1326.JPG Engine bars worked ok https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-F...o/IMG_1327.JPG So did hand guards https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8...o/IMG_1328.JPG Cheapy pannier fubared https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K...o/IMG_1329.JPG And my knee that didn't really hurt untill "Nurse Andy" sprayed his sh1te on it http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/sm...arggh_sign.gif https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-G...o/IMG_1325.JPG You can just about make out the 15m slide https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-B...o/IMG_1330.JPG The next suitable coffee stop was Murat. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-W...2014.54.49.jpg Phil examined the damage to his new Klim pants . http://tourdregs.net/phpbb/images/sm...arggh_sign.gif said Phil. |
