Tkc

Front one to be precise !!!

Love them as an all round tyre , just got 7k kms out of the back but the fronts always WEDGE UP !!!

I spoken to a few guys who've turned the tyre round and its worked fine

So here's my question ................nawt to do with tyres really !!

Can the front wheel on the XTZ be put on ANY WAY ROUND ?????

It'd save taking the tyre of ............;much easier job

Cheers Phil

Great question watching for an intelligent response, which I'm not going to provide.

Would help counter tyre creep.

PhilinFrance 25-09-13 20:55

I'll give it try anyway, if the spacers are the same each side i can't see why it wouldn't work !!

Then again i'm only a rag arse brickie :pjrflash_Q2CCBE:

Looking in the spare parts catalog it looks like there is a very good chance that it will work for the non abs version (the abs has a different hub and space for the abs sensor ring)

The spacers are different left/right so you'll have probably have to keep the spacers int the old order on the axle and the see if it will fit the hub.

Should be easy to see if the spacers fir and the brakes aligns or not :-)

Cheers, i'll take a look tomorrow

The tyre is directional, so it won't be the right way round if you turn the wheel round! Also bear in mind that if you rotate the wheel the brake pads won't be bedded in as they be working on a different disc.

PhilinFrance 25-09-13 23:22

Tyres not directional Pleiades !! back is , but did consider pads not sitting in right !!! but new ones are on there way.

I'll give it a go and let you all know how i get on , unless it kills me :confused1:

Well mine is? It clearly has an arrow on the side stating front and showing the direction of rotation.

aliwakeskate 26-09-13 00:50

Sounds an interesting idea Phil. I've got a TKC on the front as well.

I was thinking that about the pads and discs. Daft thought, but could the pads be swapped around as well? that way they might require less bedding in - or am I being stupid :smilies0943:

My front is bi directional as well as when fitting it last month I couldn't for the life of me find an arrow.

PhilinFrance 26-09-13 08:35

Yeh , thats a wierd one Pleiades , must have had a dozen TK fronts and never seen an arrow !!

Not being stupid in my book Aliwakeskate, and i like your thinking .

All that said , when you fit new pads they need bedding in any way !!! so unless you've got really bad groved discs i can't see any problems .............................or am i being stupid ??????

Yep. Mine too.

I have even put a little arrow on the hub, so I don't get it wrong when changing the tyre.

I've tried running TKC's the wrong way after the weird scalloping that happens. My experiment lasted about 15 minutes. The handling was awful, cornering was worse and I very nearly killed myself. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Gibbo1974 26-09-13 11:39

I believe (but may be wrong) the arrow is only on one side of the tyre....

I looked for one when fitting my TKC front last week and couldn't see one, so I thought I'd check the other side and found the little ******....

PHILINFRANCE, I see you live in France are you from the UK originally ? My wife and I have pondered moving out there (south west - Dor Dogne probably) what's it like ?

Off topic so please feel free to PM me.

PhilinFrance 26-09-13 17:57

Wellthats just scared the ****e out of me Gas up :blob8: was it really that bad ?

Just had a look and ther is NO ARROW on my front TKC !!! wierd !!!

Gibbo........PM sent

I don't know about turning the wheel round but the scalloping effect is normally due to braking into corners. Stop braking - use gears and anticipation and you don't get the scalloping. Also makes you a bit faster and smoother. I consider I have failed if I need to break for a corner now.

Sent from my iPhone with a smile :)

Maybe so Austin, but i've just done 1700kms of Colls and Gorges ,tons of hairpins in 5 days perhaps more than some do in a year and yes i do push it a little hard !!!! but if i didn't brake i'd die :angel8:

By the way RxR to follow Tarn,Ardeche and Verdon gorges , route de nepoleon, le bonnet..............................and many more

uberthumper 26-09-13 20:59

I've turned E-09 and Army fronts. It does even the wear out. There's no reason why TKC's would be any different. IIRC Tripletom of this parish has done the same with a TKC front, although he did have to sand the direction arrow off to get it through an MOT ;).

I'm not dead.

As for the wheel itself... I haven't had a stock front for a couple of years, but ISTR if you get it the wrong way round it puts the wheel a bit off-centre, too far for the caliper sliders to accommodate. ICBW.
