Front sprocket fitting

Hi guys,
how tight fits your front sprocket at the Tenere? I always have to use tools (a hammer and a screw driver) to remove it from and to put it on the shaft. Well I don't have to use real force get it on or off. But I am not able to do it with my bare hands as I am used to it from my former bikes.

Cheers,
Marcus

Mine was tight when I changed it a while back and I used a bearing puller so was straight forward enough. I have never had a front sprocket that could be changed by hand. To me that sounds like a worn output spline. That said I have only ever changed four so there are many more experience people than me out there who may advise. Bearing pullers are cheap enough and whilst only used sporadically, are worth the outlay.

As long as you don't punch yourself in the jaw with a breaker bar like I did when cracking off the nut on the front sprocket! It hurt like hell but I laughed as it must have looked funny.

I changed mine yesterday after 21,250kms to find that it both came off and on easily.
Your's isn't corroded on with road salt or suchlike?...WD 40 overnight?

Oh Hi Phil...

I just kept it as standard...seems to work OK for me.

Gave the old girl an oil/filter change today...no swarf on the magnetic drain plug.

That's me ready to go!!

You're all set too?

Front sprocket

I had to take the Ducati it a local tyre place and use the windy gun that they use on truck wheels to get the nut off. Bloody ridiculous how tight it was and apparently it's common on dukes. Thought I was going to damage the gearbox shaft it was that tight.
Haven't done the XTZ yet but hopefully it won't be as bad!

Mine was OK to be honest....I put it in top gear and got my wife to press on the rear brake pedal. I put a short bar over my breaker bar and it loosened with ease. (I put a daub of Tippex on it afterwards so as to see at a glance if it starts to loosen off)
