Hi Kev!
Yes, I noticed the lugs on the sidecover and they probably do their thing when pushing against a fairly robust airfilter. I found the DNA stage 1 very soft rubber and gravity makes the midsection of the filter sagg when the filter is positioned in the airbox. Any good push by the sidecoverlug will make that sagg even worse. I was thinking about adding the adhesive spongelike frame from the old original airfilter to add some thickness and maybe getting a tighter fit with the DNA 1. I got the DNA 2 laying here, might fit that together with snorkel in place and original airfilter. I got turned off by the intake sound when snorkel was out, I wonder what it will sound like with the above arrangement. Anyway, first things first is getting the O2 Controller and then go from there. Heck, I might even get used to the burping noise from a modded wideopen airbox, time will tell. Best regards Anders |
I've had a DNA 2 for a couple of years if not more without the slightest problem,in fact I have two so when needs be I just swap them over and clean the dirty one when I have time.

Good to know.
I will mount my DNA2 tomorrow with snorkel in place and original airfilter. Thanks again all for looking at and responding to this thread. Best regards Anders |

I did over 65000kms with my DNA stage 1 filter & never had a problem with dirt ingress.

waynovetten seems to have the best option using a K&N/DNA 2 combination. |
Yes, the DNA 2 seem to have same type of "lugs/ encreased thickness of rubber" to apply pressure to the original airfilter.
Really rainy weather ( bike outdoors at all times) might keep me from mounting the DNA2 anytime soon. The K&N filter is in my mind, money is not in my wallet. The intake situation will get further sorted once the O2 controller is operational. Maybe Im just overly picky when it comes to me complaining over the quality regarding the DNA 1. I might give that filter a new try later when the weather has lifted. |
The DNA out flows & out filters the K&N filter, as it has bigger pleats which increases filtering & air volume see link below. There are thousands of XT660X & R's running around with the DNA stage one filters & I have never read one post of dirt entry resulting in engine damage over the past 7 years that I have been on this forum, make sure there is a good layer of grease on the filter seal & you will be fine.

Thanks Kev.
I needed those words from you to relax a bit( no irony!) Now the weekend is here and I will give the filters a new go. Wish you all a happy weekend Anders |
