Programming a new key.
Can anybody talk me through the process of programming a newly cut key to the Ten? I lost the user manual, long story. Thanks.

FYI copied from the service manual
Standard Key Registration Standard key registration is required when a standard key is lost and needs to be replaced, or when the code re-registering key is re-registered after the immobiliser unit or ECU are replaced. NOTE: Do not start the engine with a standard key that has not been registered. If the main switch is turned ON with a standard key that has not been registered, the immobiliser indicator light flashes to indicate fault code 52. 1. Check the immobiliser indicator light signals the standby mode. 2. Using the code re-registering key, turn the main switch to ON, then OFF, and then remove the key within 5 seconds. 3. Insert the first standard key to be re-registered into the main switch, then turn the key to ON within 5 seconds to activate the registration mode. NOTE: The existing standard key code is erased from the memory when the key registration mode is activated. When the key registration mode is activated, the immobiliser system indicator light flashes rapidly. 4. While the indicator light is flashing, turn the main switch to OFF, remove the key, and within 5 seconds, insert the second standard key to be registered into the main switch. NOTE: If the immobiliser system indicator light stops flashing 5 seconds after the first standard key is registered, the registration mode is deactivated. If this occurs, the second standard key cannot be registered, and steps 2 to 4 need to be repeated to register both standard keys. 5. Turn the main switch to ON. NOTE: When the indicator light goes off, the registration is complete. 6. Check the engine can be started with the two registered standard keys. |
Thanks Pleiades. Just to clarify, my existing key also needs reprogramming at the same time?

It says later on in the service manual that you can "void" a key, say if you've lost one and don't want it to get into the wrong hands, by re-registering the one that's left. That would seem to confirm that the standard black keys need to be programmed in pairs - registering just one will cause the other to stop working. It would also appear that having to register in pairs prevents more than two keys ever being registered to the same bike, which also makes sense. |

I would concur, both keys at the same time. I've attached the page from the manual for completeness, but it doesn't say anything more than whats been said already.

Thanks again fellas.

Just doesnt seem to work for me
I habe tryed this numerous times now and it just doesnt seem to worm for me the dash still flashes all the time like even the red key doesnt turn the immobiliser of .. 2 days ago i bougjt the bike and it run great turned it on and off numerous times at petrol station etc .
Yesterday morning i went to start the bike and it wont turn off the immobiliser flash . The dash as a coolant light on all the time and wont let me into diag mode . I have tryed pressong both select and reset together in the way you are suppose to but nothing. Now if i leave the key turned on and try the buttons together it comes up to change the time so its not the buttons . Iam thinking that either the immobiliser wont let me in or it is because thebwatercoolant light is constantly on . It still give a little flash though like there is a probelm with the light . I spent all day yesterday with the bike stripped everything off all plastic tank and seat to get access to all the wiring i checked all connectors and the wiring and i just cant find the issue the bike turns over fine battery is fine feul is fine it just wont give a spark which leads me to beleieve its the immobiliser thats causing the issue . I have a black key and a red key but as i said before it is like they just eont turn of the immobliiser . So iam thinkingn theres a faulty on the immobiliser itself or the keys batterys have run out or sommat . I have tryed disconnecting the immobiliser which does nothing . I have tryed disconnect the ecu which gives error code er-1 so the ecu most be working when plugged in or it would give that code all the time saying its not recieveing anytging . I spent 16 hours on the vime yesterday and today i dont want to even go in the garage its really put me off. Can a bad watercoolant sensor cause this maybe . I habe searched all the forum but cant any issue that is the same as mine its like iam a first .somebody please help iam at my last tether . |
