Brakes

Hi All

I have a 2010 660Z and the brakes have always been a bit soft and lacking in any feel. I want to replace the brake lines with braided lines and to replace the levers with stubby ones (I had to shorten the standard ones to fit aceribis brush guards on the renthals that I have fitted).

Can anyone recommend a good place to get all these from?

Cheers

Rich

I've used HEL, you have a couple of options for the front (dual lines or Y-line) they are good guys and the hoses have worked well.

Another option is Venhill - others have used these.

There are numerous short lever solutions, form cheap Chinese type to ASV's. I opted for the ASV's, but the din't do a set specific to the Tenere, so it was a brake lever from one bike and a clutch from another that fit - they probably have this sorted by now though as many people have changed levers.

Excellent, thank you. I will look into it and get it sorted.

+1 For Hel brake lines - available here

I got myself some eBay stubby CNC levers for less than 20 for the pair - delivered!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SRB-CNC-Br...item4854bd5836

Fit perfectly and of excellent quality.

You've got to watch the ordering process and get it just right or you'll end up with the wrong levers. All the relevant information needs to be added as a note at the checkout stage.

You will need to state exactly (for the XTZ)...

1x Suzuki - GSXR 600 1997 - 2003 Clutch lever
1x Yamaha - FJR 1300 2004 - 2008 Brake lever

I want the lever in XXX color
I want the adjuster in XXX color
I want short/long levers

Crikey, they look good though, just not sure I would be confident I was getting the right ones though.

What have you got to lose for 16.98!

Seriously though, if you say what you want you will get it about 7-10 days later.

How did you work out is was a brake lever off one bike and a clutch off the other that fit?

I am in the process of ordering the levers of E-bay. Too good an opportunity to pass. I will then get some Hel lines as the brakes are a spongy as anything!

Might be worth changing the fluid, a 2010 bike should have had the brake fluid changed in 2012, you may have air in the lines.

If not changing the fluid (which you'll do anyway with new brake lines), at least bleed them and top up.

New lines do make a small difference, the brakes have a more positive feel to them over the OE setup. But I don't recall the OE setup being particularly spongy

The bike has been in storage in one of mom and step dads barns in mid wales for the last year and a half, when I got it up to Scotland it had a really thorough service, brakes taken apart and cleaned and new fluids throughout the bike, new plug, new oil and filter etc.

The brakes I think feel spongy as I can't remember what they felt like, I have a feeling they have always been a bit soft. They need to be used to get rid of any crud that's built up as well so I can't be too accurate until a good long run has taken the film off them.

New brake levers ordered though!
