yep mine did the same at about 20k's (09 blue model), thankfully the warranty covered it, the new one was a slightly different shape.

i guess a welded repair should sort it out

Mines 09 too on 48,000 miles. God knows how long it's been like it. Welded it up today. It's surprisingly thin stuff.

What is it made out off? Stainless, mild steel or something else.
