GPS installation
Hi,
I know that there probably is another thread about this, but I'm quite confused. I want to install a TomTom Rider GPS on my XT660R '06. I have just ordered some PosiLocks /Positaps ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yiimgl-Rdmw) Should i tap in on a specific wire already on the bike or how do I do it? Thanks for your help! |
Tap into the +12V supply to the side lamp if you want an ignition switched feed and don’t forget to fit a suitably rated in line fuse. That would be the quick fix.
However, it would probably be better in the long run if you tapped into one of a supply to either the tail light or rear brake light switch to trigger a fused relay mounted under the seat somewhere; then the load can be controlled by the relay/ignition and drawn straight from the battery. You’ve also then got a decent, meaty, high current ignition switched supply for other accessories you may wish to fit later. BTW - Welcome to XT660.com! :) |

So basically what you are saying is that if I tap into the wire for the tail light, I wouldn't need to fit an extra fuse? I could also connect directly into the fuse box maybe? |

Inline fuse holders are cheap as chips - normally they are supplied with GPS power leads? |
