16t front sprocket??

Guys a little help please
:icon_joker:

Looking to get a 16T front sprocket for my Tenere but cant seem to find anyone who sells them???

Ive looked at BandC express, Wemoto and a few other places but they all only list a 15T or 14T.

SingleMinded 28-04-13 17:35

Maybe you can't find one 'cos nobody needs one?

What's your plan?

fastgeoff 28-04-13 19:37

Have you considered a smaller rear sprocket instead ?

SingleMinded 28-04-13 20:38

Note that the standard final drive gear ratio is already quite 'long'... too long imo: the Ten will never red line in 5th gear and as such even with standard sprockets you will never reach the theoretical calculated top speed.

Do the maths on www.gearingcommander.com

TALON YEOVIL Somerset make sprockets and much more.

Ohlins 28-04-13 22:52

cheers guys ill look at the suggestions.

I'm looking the teneres speedo to be correct, 70mph on the clock reads 61mph on GPS which is massively out, that and I've a few long distance rides coming up and want to be able to cruise a bit better and sit at a real 70mph.

Did this mod on my old R and had no issues and it basically corrected the speedo to GPS accuracy

SingleMinded 29-04-13 22:28

Ah ... yes. According gearingcommander a 16t sprocket will drop the RPMs at 70mph from 4491 to 4210 rpm.

Did you consider installing a speedohealer? Costs the same as 4 sprockets...

As SingleMinded has said, the standard gearing is fairly tall anyway, and many people go the other way and lower the gearing (which makes the speedo even further out, of course, but you can't have everything). You ought to consider that if you raise the gearing the bike may not cruise as well at the speeds you mention, as the engine will be further down the torque curve at the lower revs.

It's a quick and easily reversed mod, so there's no harm in trying, but my feeling is that Yamaha have got the gearing about as high as it will reasonably go.

Why not fit a Speedo Healer ?

Seams a bit extreme to choke the cruising speeds to correct a speedo fault ?

I tried a 15T and found the bike was running a little too high in the revs for motorway cruising, and it hit the range a bit too. Can't imaging where a 16T would lead.

You could always go a few teeth at the rear ? or chuck the clocks away and fit a TrailTech unit ? But I'd look at the speedo healer first :smilies0337:

maxwell123455 30-04-13 22:30

I can't see there being any issues as I'd the 16t setup on my R for sometime with no issues of lowering revs for set speed as realistically I still rode to he speedo, but I was actually doing closer to that speedo speed than before for the same revs

so effectively that's what's I'm wanting to do. if I only put a speedo healer on the revs will be say 4500 rpm and I'll realistically still only be doing 61mph, where as if I put a 16t sprocket on and have the bike at 4500rpm my speed should be alot closer to 70mph as it is telling me..... if you get what I mean.

looks like off the road are the only people doing them but at 30e all in its not cheap

I'd like to see you trail riding with a 16T front, well I would if I could stop myself laughing!:laughing9:

if I can get a tiger 1050 off road and I wasn't in first most of the time I'd get a tenere off road with a 16t sprocket

Hello Max my man.

I'd say it depends on what you call lanes/off road mate.

This

or this

If you intend doing the top type stuff I would imagine you would be slipping the clutch like a kipper on jam covered slide with the 16th on.

maxwell123455 02-05-13 22:46

fiddich

If I was doing any off roading I'd put a 15 tooth sprocket on but most of my riding is road riding so I'd like a 16t to allow me to do the speed the bikes telling me it's doing

but nice piccies of off roading

Fiddich 03-05-13 00:47

Sorted then! :023:
The stage 2, kev mod and mtc can will probably kill off any negative effects that the 16th will have when it comes to 'get up and go' on the road.

yep that's my hopes as although she's not arm wreckingly hard on acceleration I'm sure a 16t sprocket isn't going to harm the acceleration that much and hopefully sort out the near 10mph gap between dial speedo and real world speed

tacomodo 03-05-13 13:28

Doesn't take long to swap so worst case you just put the old 15t back in. Give it a go :)

Now this is with a 14T on.. could easly go to a 13T.... A 16T would be just to tall in some of the places I ride..
Road use only..But I surpose it depends on what yer call off road everyones verson is a little diffrent..

well I finally took my finger out and ordered a 16 tooth front, hopefully I get it before Easter as going to Southern Ireland for a few days and going to be doing some miles

How did it go? 16 tooth any better?

maxwell123455 15-08-15 00:15

Yea still working fine, at 70mph dial speed I'm getting 68mph GPS. it does allow you to cruise a lot easier and is great for higher speed stuff but if it's windy the bike at 75mph just has no more left. but I don't mind as it's better for me mid range, I only change to top at 60mph plus and for any twisty roads easily just use 3 or 4 gear.

toured two up with luggage and it was ok but did require a few long stints in 3 or 4 as to change up the engine would have struggled with low revs

Thanks, I'm on a 14 front but mostly ride two up. Only been on it alone twice since getting it! My girlfriend likes coming along whenever I go for a ride. Glad she doesn't have her bike license or I don't think I'd see the 'ten much at all! Lol
