What is the best single can pipe out there?

The MTC link page on here only mentions double cans. I have no interest in that, rather I want a loud single muffler system with a Y pipe, somewhere tucked out of harm's way like it was on my old KLR650. That was a White Brothers pipe, as I recall.

I visited my local Yammy dealer today and was quoted 1k for an Akrapovich double pipe system. That's 1/3 of my bike's value, and the sales droid was 99% clueless to boot. :bigfinger[1]:So he can go stuff a taco. :hahaha[1]:

Anybody have a good single can system to recommend? How do I go about buying the Kev mod to go with the pipe? I reckon that my bike will run like dooky unless I do the Kev mod with the pipe. I have opened up the airbox per Kev's suggestions.

Oh yeah, it has to be shipped to France, where I am awaiting extradition:dog:

MTC do sell single cans. They are good. And cheap.

If you've opened up the air box I would assume you have and XTR or X? (If you've drilled out and opened the airbox as per Kev's suggestions on an XTZ you're engine isn't going to last long! ;) )

MTC only do a single can system for the Tenere, as far as I can recall the only options for R/X are the Metal Mule system (which is cheap and of suspect quality) and the Off The Road system (which is more expensive but better quality and gives a choice of off-the-shelf end cans).

WHOA. This data is conflicted! One gentlemans says MTC makes single cans (with photographic evidence), but another gentlemans says only for the Tener.

My bike is an R (I must update my sig).

I would love to go with MTC, support this forum and all. Could another gentlemans please confirm oui or non for MTC single can system on an XTR?

Much obliged to y'all,

Reno (updated sig follows)

The picture is of an XTZ.

As Pleiades said and to the best of my knowledge too the only single can systems available for the XTR or XTX are from Metal Mule or OTR.

Metal Mule has been criticised here for marginal quality. I guess I will look for http://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-660...-e-marked.html instead.

Thanks for the help!

As for purchasing the Kev mod, do I do that thru the forum here, or what? Do I have to become a supporting member first?

Sorry, lots of questions ... :VeryHot_FWSGAA:

The Yammy dealer here in France is unable to order a single can Akrapovic system such as yours. As France is a small and odd country in which to do import business (the French like to buy only French or Chinese products), our choice of available products is reduced.

The Akrapovic single can system as an exclusive Off The Road product - that'll be why your dealer can't get one. That's the advantage of the OTR 2-1 setup, you can choose the can.

How do yer find the Nitron shock ?..
Have yer used/riden any other after market shocks to
compaire it to... ie Ohlins/Wilbers etc..
The prob I finding with the XTR is yer can only fit
very basic shock unless yer remove & build another air box..

back on topic..:WellDone_OROQR1:
I have had no issues with my Metal mule system... seems others have had fitting probs..

Erm, it works well enough for me. Seemed to work well enough for Stoic_bloke to do the Heroes-Legend on, and he's a hell of a lot quicker than me. I think he did eventually break his last year, but they did rebuild it for him.

I've only had that and the OE shock.

On this side of the world, you can get them to build you one with 3-way damping adjustment and hydraulic preload adjustment for the price of the Ohlins with 2-way damping and grovelling around in the dirt with a c-spanner.

Not that I've actually used any of the adjustment, either they're very good at setting it up for your weight and intended use, or I'm not quick enough to notice :D.
