Starter motor problem
 

Hi, a friend of mine has a 2003 XT600E and when he goes to start it the starter motor just spins but does not turn the engine over. He bought a new starter which he was told was from a 660 Raptor?? but it fitted fine. Pressed the starter and the same thing happens. he was then advised to replace the solenoid which he did, but you guessed it, exactly the same. Before he wastes any more money, does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

It's probably the starter clutch sprag bearing that's is shagged - a common fault on XT600. Need to remove flywheel to get at it.
