Somewhere around 55kg for the motor on it's own, so definitely 'solidly built', but there's plenty of weight in the chassis as well. I have a stupid idea for building a much lighter bike around the XT motor, but I'm trying not to even think about it till after I get back from the US. |
Great, at the start I thought I was the only one with this crazy idea.... it's good to know that there are others who were thinking about it also .... :blob10::blob10:

or just buy a 500cc motorcross bike, cr, kx etc and road register it!
the xt is a heavy bike and will always be, go to the gym if you struggle to pick it up, or improve your riding so you dont fall off !! :bricks: |
Taking the standard exhaust off and fitting a single can you could feel the difference in handling. 8kg with the **** plastic shield.:bigwink

I have a scale at work to weigh stuff that we send by plane and its accurate because we have to pay every kilo we send. I use it for different purpose like weigh motorbikes :toothy9: and my XT 660 R 04 weigths 167kg. With no fuel, Metal Mule 2into1, PC III, BMC air filter, no passenger footpegs, acerbis fender, Dyna handlebar, no toolkit(just for this event), Acerbis handguards, CRD skidplate, snorkel out, enduro pegs and AIS system fully removed.
The passenger footpegs weigths 630g each one. I'm planning to go to USD forks, some alu/ti bolts and get rid of the rim locks. I think its possible to have a XT660 with 165kg without spending big money. |
been there... Not a lot of real weight to be saved on a XTR..
yer can chip around the edges... Pipes are biggest single weight saveing.. I have looked & I'm tempted to cut the rear sub frame off & build a alloy one.. everything behined the top shock mount.. But I would really like another frame to hack up in case... |
Remove every thing you don't need.Lighten the things you do fit alloy rims remove the pipes fit alloy single. The rear light ass is pig heavy:017:,you will get there.
