Lakes V - Confirmation - We have a site !

I bring news......

Today I have had confirmation from the camp site that the dates and the field are available to us, and have been booked.

Same site as last year, so you can choose Camping, or Pods. Unfortunately they have taken a business decision to turn the B&B over to a Holiday Let, so we cannot offer B&B accommodation. There is B&B available at the pub down the road, if anyone wants to look at that then please let me know and I'll forward them details.

However, we will have the marquee up again, and the field is sheltered so we are pretty well equipped to deal with crappy weather. Heating and refreshments will be available as last year around the clock for those who want it.

Thanks to Microsofts wonderful automatic updates trashing my HDU, the NavXT will have completely new WP's this year, and the current plan is to include a map for the event in the pack (OS maps will still be useful if you need them - once the areas have been defined) the map I've found also has loads of local information on it too, should you need it. Also the area will be increased so you'll get to see even more of the national park.

Nice work Darren. Can you share the location so I can find out about the pods?

Ta.

Normally, we don't advertise openly, but we have a planning meeting on October last year and agreed, due to the inherent security of the location within the site, letting people know is no longer a problem.

Don't be put off by the 'holiday' part of the website, we don't use that area - we have a nice secluded area where no-one else goes.

We still need to work on the aspects as Camping will be included, where people have organised Pods, there will be a separate cost mechanism.

Anyone who wants a Pod, please can you book this directly with the site.

Dick Dastardly used a Pod last year, and has commented on one of the other threads.

Thanks Darren. Looks a good spot.

Spoke to Alison at the farm today and took the liberty of booking myself a pod - can't face putting a tent up at midnight after 300 (probably wet) miles in the saddle, so went for the easy/lazy option: Park bike - helmet off - open beer - drink! :beer[1]:

Just note, if your thinking of a pod, that you'll need to send a deposit (40).

The Lakes sound like a lot of fun, would it be possible for an easy going Norwegian to join. I would have to look for boats going to England from Denmark or Holland, but why not :-)

You will certainly be welcome and probably even considered a hero for making the effort to cross the channel to join what is probably the best xt660.com meeting of the year, so if you really can do it, go for it!

Yes, you would be very very welcome.

There is a boat from Amsterdam to Newcastle - > http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ferry-r...-to-amsterdam/

It's an overnight ferry, I've used it a few times, and you'll be about 90 minutes ride from the ferry to the site (or maybe 2-3 hours if you take the scenic roads)

I can recommend a nice route of you if you like.

I`ll come rolling of the ferry mentioned above at 0900 friday morning, thanks. Any other day I would appreciate the scenic route, but please bring me straight to the fun part :-)

If I'm OK to go, I could meet you at the ferry and guide ya throo the traffic.

Will let you know for sure nearer the time.

Pete

Respect to that man :icon_thumright:

The route, from the ferry, head for "Hexham" or the "A69" they are signposted from the ferry port.

Once you clear the Newcastle area, follow the "A69" until you see a sign for "A686", (about 7 Km after the road changes to single carriageway), to the left (south). This road is very nice indeed, and rated among the best biking roads in the UK.

The A686 only passes through one small town (very small) called "Alston". Maybe 7Km after Alston is a Cafe on the left. It's a good place for a bite to eat or a coffee, and very biker friendly. The view from here is rather a good one (though nothing compared to Norway!)

Follow the A686 all the way to "Penrith", where you will come to a roundabout, take the 3rd exit heading for "Keswick" or "A66 - West" for a short distance (1Km) then you need to take the 2nd exit from the next roundabout (still following for Keswick).

After maybe 17-20Km there is a road to the left called "A5091" signposted "Troutbeck", take it. then it's next right and the farm is about 1Km up the single track road on the right.

I can put together a GPX route if you prefer ?

I can PM you a contact number if you need any help ??

No need for the GPX route, but if you could PM me a contact number, just in case, that would be great

OK, I'll have a lie in, but the offer stands in case you change ya mind, just thought you might like someone to follow, I've been to Assen a few times and had some trouser moments riding the wrong side of the road.

Quickest/easiest way to the A69 sounds daft but go north on the A19 to the A1 then south down the A1 to the A69. All dual carridgeway and misses oot the Toon.

Thats very kind of you. Its allways nice to have company and someone to follow. So we just meet outside the port then?

Skunkmoto 06-04-13 17:16

Yeah you roll off the ferry into a big car park, only one way out I think, so I will park up some where obvious. Will PM you my number.

Pfft not worth going without Pete! He redefines a dry sense of humour :)

(Which is prolly the only thing likely to be dry....)

I suppose the law of averages will, one day, eventually be in our favour... we'll see if it's this year :)

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 20-04-13 13:59

Don't you recall sitting in glorious sunshire, with the mother of all hangovers, last year ?

SelinaXC 21-04-13 09:23

Oh i do that indeed GuGL, but that wasn't the actual weekend was it :)

That hangover was right up there in my all time top ten. (Thanks StumpyDave)

I was hoping you might not have realised. Still we did have some sunshine, as well as frost !
