New Boy In France

WELL THAT TOOK TWO NIGHTS OF TRYING !!!!!

Finally found the way in by means of the compatabilaty box thing !!!

Anyway here i am , i've lived in SW France for 9 years now done two runs down to Maroc on my faithful DR650

But for years now wanted to do a long trip , whittled it down to the West Coast of Africa and wanted a bike to do it on , my DR would do it but fancied something newer !!!!!!

The XTZ seemed to fit the bill so bought a 2010 with 13K kms and will be kitting her out over the next 15 months and asking LOADS of QUESTIONS

Cheers Phil

:hello: and :welcome: to :660:

Exciting times lay ahead for you, and I suggest you read the whole technical Tenere sections as well as the travelog sections, so that you see what people have experienced in their long distance trips with the bike, that way you can taylor your kit before you set off.

If you need any trick parts such as DNA filters of MTC 2 into 1 exhausts ask me first as we have sponsored discounts with these 2 companies as well as DynoJet power commanders etc.

p.s.: becoming an XT Supporter will give you access to areas not available to "voyers" and also you will be able to obtain one to one assistance from our in-house tech guru Kev.

This is how you join the scheme: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=1475

It's a small world innit. PhilW is on here too - Wide. There's some other emigres around occasionally too.

I still have my Transalp - now on 110,000 miles but going well. Me and anne also have an XT660R each as our travel/trip bikes. Love 'em. Lighter than a Ten' so faster , but not quite so well equipped so also LOADS cheaper. I hired a Ten in Africa for 6 weeks and 5,000 miles. Bloody uncomfortable I thought; Anne was on a 660R and was sitting pretty and comfortable the whole trip. XT660 is the best travel bike available at the mo I reckon.

We might be shipping our bikes to USA in spring for trip New York to LA or we might do an East Europe and Turkey tour later in the year. It will be one or the other.

Your Senegal trip sounds good though too. I still reckon you should ride one way and ship the bikes back. Gives you more time for the trip and probably cheaper.

Austin
Looked at the R and nearly got one , as you say a load cheaper but i have the DR650 for proper playing !!!
Shipping is still an option as id like to get as far south as the money lets , as said i've got a year or so to sort things out.

Don't forget if you're every down this way call in for a brew

Cheers Phil
