Newbie in London

Howdy All,

Just checking in to say hi and to congratulate you all on a no-nonsense, no-BS resource - very refreshing for the internet.

I recently picked up an unmolested 2008 XT660R with low miles for a very reasonable price and have spent the afternoon fitting Renthal's, heated grips and barkbusters. As a competent desk jockey, I'm an incompetent mechanic and this site provided plenty of useful info to (provide the courage?) assist with tackling these tasks, thank you.

Next up is the Metal Mule 2 into 1 system and rad guard followed by their bash plate and rear rack, once the latter two arrive.

I've ordered a Gilimoto tank that is expected to arrive in time to be the Xmas present to the new toy. That will give me something to do while I hibernate through winter in London. Not quite the temps that I am used to from home in BrisVegas!

Thanks to all for a great site.

Cheers,
Dale

Gents - thanks for the welcome.

Here is the "vanilla" toy before I started work on it, it will never look this clean again:

This is after a few hours of tinkering for me, around 15mins for someone accomplished in the garage. The end result is new bars, new grips, symtec heat pads and very bright Barkbusters - in a vain attempt at increasing road presence :p

And from the top.... the wires are for the Symtec heated grips, which is next on the list. I say next, as I didn't like the idea of splicing directly into the headlight loom as suggested in the instructions. I'm thinking about an auxiliary fuse box (Centech?) for these, the GPS power source and spare power for phone etc - feel free to chip in with cheaper alternatives!

Many more questions to come... such as, what fun should I expect when I attempt the MM 2 into 1 exhaust installation????

Cheers,
Dale
