Seat Q

I have had a look around and cant find much info on what others have done to their seats?
This bike seems to have a weird seat, a few hours on it and one min its uncomfortable... it feels as if Im sitting in a bowl and my butt is pressed against a hump
The next min Im thinking its not too bad
I cant work out whether it would be best to have some of the hump cut away and the seating part made flatter with more surface area to move
I would like to keep the original cover as its very nice
Im not definately looking at adding so much to make it all one level enduro style as from what Ive seen offered at Touratech, it just looks wrong, not to mention how high its getting made!!!
Anyone got some usefull options cheers

I agree, its a weird design. I just got an Airhawk which sorted it for me.

i think the seats fine, did buy an Airhawk though and it made the seat a thousand times better.

what i hate is when off road, riding down steepish trails and the seat hump hits you in the ass! i would love a flat seat but im convinced all these peeps with them must ride road and easy trails only as the bikes a ****** to handle due to its height with a standard seat....let alone making it higher. (and i'm tall!)

I agree there, Im sure an airhawk will do wonders I had one on my Alp and it made doing JoG to LE 860 ish miles in one day very bearable, but they are a faff and get nicked also and then there is the extortionate price of them !! A fair chunk of money that could make the seat nicer without the need for it .
I looked on the link to the thread and first poster with a beige Ten has a very nice looking seat but it just the height it takes it to. Im a comfy 31/32" inside leg and taking it to 37" is just crazy... not for roads but the minute you go off road and ride next to a rut immediatly it can become 40.. 45 inch to foot down, which by that time bikes over and on top of you, coming off rock steps will be even more daunting !! Im no off road god, but Im no beginner either and not bothered about where I really try to get a bike and prepared to have a go at most terrain. On page 2 shows a nice white Ten with what looks to be best compromise.
I see also lowering links for little money and wonder if these are also a likely compromise as I dont think Im looking for enduro levels of clearance

I had a Ten on hire for 6 weeks and 5000 miles on a trip earlier this year. I agree with Phil's (Wide's) findings mostly super uncomfortable but for no reason suddenly feeling fine. Mostly it was very uncomfortable though and there were times when I really didn't want to get on it. I even sat on jumpers to try and improve it. In comparison my wife was on a 660r and was always comfortable. I think the Ten's seat is an awful shape, too narrow and locking you in a single position in its "bucket". I would have thought an airhawk would make things worse as it would narrow the bucket without completely filling it. I dont know what the solution as without making the seat height insane.

Nope... high (+4cm) KAHEDO seat from OTR ... ridden in Maroccan desert, Dutch mud and Rumanian rocks... (me being 1,76m tall)

It is mostly the weight of the bike that forces you to drop it once it starts tipping over... don't risk an injury trying to keep it upright... just abandon ship a.s.a.p. and you'll be safe... the bike will take the beating without hardly any damage at all.

If you get the right Airhawk it will make the seat wider. I use a Large Cruiser that moulds nicely around the edge of the seat. Its in the front where the cushion is a bit too wide. Working on that.
It will not make the seat much higher either. If it does then there is too much air in it.
They are very costly in the UK but easily ordered from the old USofA at a fraction of the cost. Beware of tax though.
