i know OTR sell some lovely forks (WP USDs i think?) but there 2 thirds of the money that i paid for the bike! (with extras!!).

any other forks fit in? i know on the FZS1000 people put R1 USD forks on. (i haven't on mine, just K-Tech springs, makes a big diff though)

Question:
How do you get rid of the original decals set on the gas tank? If I want to replace it with the decals in my first post.... I guess thats not easy to do! :/

I can only speak for the 2008 black Tenere, which was the only year that had the grey/white Tenere/mountain logo...

The strange thing is (it might be similar on later bikes) is that the small Tenere/mountain logo is actually stuck on and laquered over with the rest of the tank (if you buy a new OE black replacement tank this logo is pre-fitted), unlike the round tuning fork logo, which is stuck on afterwards. It will be next to impossible to remove the Tenere logo without damaging the laquer around it, and you'd have to remove it because it is raised and would show up under any other decals.

...but as I said, this only applies to black '08 bikes.

BTW - hairdrier and a plastic fridge/freezer scraper I've found is usually the best way to remove any "stuck on" logos.

For info. it is possible to paint/have painted the grey plastic panels, however they do need a lot of sanding and preparation to get a good finish, and even then, if you drop the bike, you are likely to crack/chip the paint - especially on the cheek panels that protect the tank. You also need a very good plastic/etching primer, and ideally have a specialist bodyshop do the prep & paint work to ensure a good finish...

As for graphics, personally I would get the bike painted a single colour and laquered, and then use individual stickers on top to create your own design - then you can always change them if you fancy something new or they get scratched... although I did like the look of those graphic kits in the link xphase put at the beginning...

As for removing the gaiters and fitting upper fork guards a la the TT600, personally I think that looks shonky... if you were keeping the stock low front fender, then you could perhaps paint the fork lowers the same colour if you wanted more of a 'rallye' look? I actually think contrasting fork gaiters (say red gaiters on a white bike with red graphics for example) might actually be pretty cool... but what the hell do I know? - I originally painted mine like Ikea!

With work you could pretty much fit any mx/enduro fork of a similar dimension, but you'll have to factor in also using the triple clamps and a corresponding wheel too to get everything to work together... then you may well have to factor in chancing the springs to get the correct spring rate for the bike, and valving etc.

That's why the OTR triple clamps are so good - they are designed to fit the the Tenere steerer tube (and head bearings), plus have the correct spacing for a KTM front wheel to slot straight in...

I agree the parts are expensive new, but WP fork legs and KTM front wheels are pretty easy to come by secondhand these days... In fact if you PM Stoic Bloke (or search his bike-build posts) he actually fitted WP forks using some KTM triple clamps too, and they didn't need much modification...

Hope that helps!

Now that I've sold my original front wheel, I'm pretty sure my WP front end conversion stands me at less than 1000, using new OTR yokes, and second-hand KTM for everything else. I've still got the original forks to sell, so that total should come down a bit further.

That's not bad for a bolt-on setup with no machining. Hell, you could spend the best part of that on a decent paint job. I'll take the decent suspension, and a rubbish DIY rattle can paint job every day, but YMMV. :D

Hee hee - stop it Uber' - we're teasing them!

I see a whole bunch of Teneres with fancy paintwork and USD forks in the near future!

So, when do you want a dubious coloured metalflake and candy job then? :D

Well that's how it should be. The forks anyway, I wouldn't know about fancy paintwork, as anyone who's seen my bike lately can testify :D

totally agree! i was going to get mine resparyed, stickered and so on. But when out riding the shinny new stickers wont keep the bike stable while blasting down a old quarry road!!

As for more Tens getting WP front ends, i agree - i reckon its a mod that will continue to grow. what puts me off though is i need the bike on the road so i need to get all the bits before hand.

I may of asked this before (sorry) but is there an indepth "how to" for this mod. (containing part numbers or exact part descriptions, all the bits you need, tips and tricks). i would actually pay for this.

Theres a guy on the fazer site who is brillant at mods. He buys second hand parts, machines it if neccesary, puts togther a "how to" and then sells the kits on.
