Tenere traveler needs help after hitting a kangaroo
Hello all,
a good friend from Switzerland, actually travelling Australia on his RTW trip, had some bad luck: http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/2984/vyqr9v6n_jpg.htm http://s14.directupload.net/file/d/2...bifpuf_jpg.htm http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/2984/8v5uglnq_jpg.htm Fortunaltely he is ok, just needs some spare parts and new clothings. He told me, that he tried to get a member of this forum but he can`t edit any posts. (he is not in the members list though) his nick supposed to be "sushi" - well that`s what he told me. Probably something went wrong. Tomorrow he will try to get to Coral Bay, stay there for some days before he heads on to Canarvon and then towards Perth. He is in need of either a new tube for his front fork or a replacement. I guess, some plastic parts also would come handy... Is anybody near who may be able to help him or has some infos where he may get parts or mecanical help to straighten his bike out? Any suggestion welcome! |
Sorry Inkajoe cant help. I would pm kev with a rough idea of things and im sure he would know off the back of his hand where he can get his hands on some parts

Yeaph those kangas are a b-i-t-c-h when you hit them .... thank god he's alright and luckly it looks like it was a smaller animal. BTW Emu's aren't any better !!!
During my last trip (Birdsville loop) an Emu ran straight across the road between me and my riding buddy while we were riding about 7 meters apart. Very very bloody scary :icon_pale: I doubt whether there will be any second-hand tubes available locally but you never know. Haven't travelled quite that far across Oz so not sure what facilities are like around there - remote motorcycle shops are particularly adept at "making do" but I imagine that that best service will be available further South. Yamaha show dealers available in Carnarvon and Geraldton then there's a BIG gap down to Perth. The bike doesn't look too good so I hope he is mobile enough to make whatever distance is required. The joys of the Oz Outback - desolate, rugged and beautiful ... but liable to be really challenging at times !!! |
Posted on ADVRider.com (Australia)
Guys,
I've posted a link to this thread on the Australian Forum on ADVRider.com InkaJoe, you might want to keep an eye on it to see what help the West Australians might be able to provide. Link: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...1#post19408101 Good luck to your friend, hope his RTW ride doesn't end in WA... |
Thanks boneman, just forwarded the link to sushi, so he will be able to follow up from there too.
best regards from Peru, Joe |
Where is he exactly now?
I am in Perth and can assist as required locally. I'm an ex tenere rider as well so know the bike. He should be able to order the fork tube from this yamaha dealer in Perth (see below), doesn't look as though there is a Yamaha Motorbike Dealer in Carnarvon. It might be expensive though! Yamaha parts in Australia are. A cheaper option would be to talk to offtheroad.de in Germany and see what they can do to get a fork tube airfreighted to him via UPS. Alternatively, tell him to get his bike on a truck down to Perth and fly from Carnarvon down here and sort it out when he's here. He'll be very lucky to find a second hand replacement locally - there haven't been that many Tenere's sold in WA. My number 0418976005, Andrew. Thanks Andrew!
Just forwarded your datas to him, so i guess he will contact you. best regards from Lima, Joe |
following message from "sushi" just came in:
hello i am fine and after one week the sun is shining again. the bikes goes up to 70-80 km/h on bitumen. drove 350 km since the suicide-attack by that poor thing. will be leaving coral bay in a few days. its only 250km to carnarven where i hope to find a mechanic with some of the old aussie spirit. more like "don't worry mate, there's nothing i cant fix" and less "****, this guy is gonna sue me". i prefer repairing rather than replacing. if someone knows a good bikewrecker on the way to perth, i am listening. have sent emails to the yamaha shops in perth about the parts: Yamaha XT660Z TENERE 2008 11D-F3110-00 INNER TUBE COMP.1 5VK-25181-00 AXLE, WHEEL 94418-21X00 RIM (1.85-21) 11D-F5104-00 SPOKE SET, FRONT waiting for their answers but the call from a mechanic in exmouth to perth was not positiv. perth was anyway my last destination in australia. once the bike is on a boat i have time to organize the parts overseas, if they cant do it in perth. sushi |
That's positive news at least :sunny:
I suspect the option to ship home and repair will prove to be the most likely and certainly the cheapest :102: |
As far as i know, he is able to ride the bike - slowly but possible.
He will sip the 10 to India, where he attempts the 3. Stage of his RTW trip (after South America and Australia). No news at the moment, i`ll keep you posted. thanks, Joe |
