SW Motech pegs- Install w/pics

Howdy Folks.

Well I got around to putting on some of my "farkles", including a pair of SW Motech footpegs. I was looking for some footpegs that were "adjustable" so as to get a bit more legroom, so I purchased this expensive set.

I decided to chronicle the installation, because the instruction sheet that came with the pegs is rubbish, IMHO.

Here are the tools you'll need to get the job done- the sizes are: 10mm and 13mm

This OEM bracket stays on the bike, no need to remove it

This bit is what holds the peg and spring together. You'll notice a stamped, "L" on the inside face. The "L" is telling you this piece is for the left side of the bike. Wish I would've known that from the get go, but that is not covered in the instructions, nor did I notice the stamp, at first.

The hole above the stamp is where the OEM spring's straight end fits for tension.

This is how the OEM spring should look, once fitted to the new piece.

The end result. Quite sharp looking! And they fit my size 49 boots better than the stock bits. The rubber pads are removable for off-road duty.

The pegs are stoutly built and I'm very happy with their comfort. I just wish the instructions were plainer, it would have made the job easier.

Hope this helps to get the job done quicker, if you decide to purchase these. Cheers!

I fitted mine a couple of months ago and I don't regret it for one second.

The best part for me about the SWMOTECH pegs is that they can be lowered, which made a world of difference for me.

The not-so-good part is that the "spikes" around the edges could be a bit sharper. They feel somewhat slippery, but I have yet to fall of when riding offroad, and I've had plenty of chances :)

And of course they are bigger than stock, so you don't get painful feet after riding standing for extended periods of time.

Go buy them :)

Thanks for the info, the details you have given is what I wanted to know so I have ordered a set.

SW Motech foottpegs

The new SW footpegs arrived and duly fitted and I must say the quality of these footpegs is excellent and in use with my size 13 feet they are the biz.

Update on install to the low position.

Hi Folks,

I have enjoyed my new footpegs, and the lower setting has helped my leg comfort, immensely.

One slight issue that has popped up in the lower position install. My 2011 Tenere's sidestand "rubs" on the left footpeg, and occasionally does not retract to the "full and upright position" as the flight attendants say. It has not been a problem, yet , but I could foresee a circumstance while riding off-road where you wouldn't want the sidestand to act as a pivot-point by catching on a big rock or gate as you pass by.

To alleviate this issue, I just give the stand a second look to make sure it is tucked all the way up before I take off.

Just a little caveat for an otherwise great product.

howdy, Ive just ordered some of these, obviously I'll have to lower the gear & brake levers as well. I know the gear lever is on a spline , is the brake lever on a spline as well ??

No it's not. You'll have to lower it with the adjuster/lock nut. However, you'll find you can only lower it a few millimetres though. To get it any lower you need to take the linkage off and fit two thinner nuts or grind down the two nuts to half their thickness.

I was in the Yam dealer the other day and had a look at a 660 and 1200 Ten side-by-side and came up with the bright idea of getting SuperTen footpegs on my 660..

Waiting to hear back from Yam if they will fit.

I think they're going to try some experiments in the dealership :D

Sorry to revive an old thread but I've just got these and am having trouble fitting them. Seems I have to use a lot of force to get the holes lined up, and in doing this the spring moves off centre and I can't get the pin back through.

Am I missing something or should I just push harder?

Subways81 13-08-15 18:31

Never mind, got them in by first assembling the pegs, this gave me more to hold when lining up the spring and holes.
