And please stop arguing... heheh Ill be careful with the sensor then, and it`ll be ok. I like doing as much as I can, hate spending cash on overprised dealers. But its a lovely bike, Im surprised with how well it runs. Ive had a couple of old XT600-K-Z, and they cant compare. Last bike was a 95`Africa Twin, but I think the 660 runs just as well, maby even better. Still stock, Fuel mod is in the mail. Got the black boxes, Givi crashbar, tinted screen cut down to reduce turbulence, raised it 35mm, 30mm handlebar raisers, and just got in from mounting a 12v socket.. :047: Osmund :) |
Beemers are undoubtedly engineering masterpieces, but they are also premium priced & often ridden by posers who would never dream of thrashing them off road or using in winter etc. I shudder to think about running costs, & yes I have seen far too many that are used for summer Sunday trips to the coffee shop only. Sorry to flog a dead horse, & no disrespect to the many real biker owners out there.

well i think if you looked at a Bmeer or a tenere after a winters use the Tenere would be goosed as Yamahas build quality like most Jap bikes now is crap ,rusty spokes ,flakey engine paint ,melting wiring , peeling stickers blah blah ,yes and i"ve bought one and i have a BMeer so i can compare them both as an owner not as someone looking at a bike passing me on the road and thinking he"s a dick and the bikes **** because it says BMW on it .The GS does it"s job well as does the Tenere ,no need to insult the riders.Most BM"s you will see for sale have high mileages i don"t think this is from summer use only.Again each to their own i say but don"t judge everyone the same .

Hey Osmund, could you say what you mean by decent tires?
In a german forum I found a post with problems putting on a knobby (tkc80) on an ABS tenere... coudn't break anymore! So please report on your progress - because I want to buy a tenere myself and such an issue will force me to the nonABS version, although I'm not that tall! Cheers, Jan |

that is good news! The problems are twofold: 1 - ABS did always think the tires are blocked and did release the break. Because of different tire speed (front/back) or the knobbys or whatnot! Essentially he could not stop the bike. 2 - The tire-permits are technically only for the 660Z not the 660ZA (not that I care) . But if you say it works than I'm really glad!!!!! |

I've ridden around 3-4000 km now both on and off road and have never noticed anything different between the street tyres and the knobbies. To be exact I am running Metzeler Karoo front and TKC80 rear. My next set will be something completely different. Not because they aren't brilliant, because they are, I just want to try out different tyres :) Either way, if you are worried about the ABS and knobbies, you could easily just remove the ABS fuse from under the seat while running on knobbies and just put it back when switching back to normal tyres. Personally I have decided I prefer to have it on at all times, both on and off road |

I now have Mitas E07 back and Sava MC23 front, and they are both great. No trouble with the ABS. I just took out the sensors and let them hang there while the wheels were off, and stayed clear of magnets (as was printed on the wheel) ;-D Didnt know much about the tires, just read a bit and had to choose. The Sava front is pretty knobby and cheap, but seems very good so far, both on gravel and tarmac. Ive seen the TKC fits better on heavier bikes because of the big knobs, and they wear pretty fast. But I might still give them a try later, its the only way to find out for sure.. Osmund Btw, Ill fit a switch to turn off ABS anyway. ABS isnt perfect when you want to play a bit on gravel... |
