Next, Gear change worn on splines.
Dear All,
The gear change lever has worn the splines and has more play than the space between the slot. I could do my bodge of filing the slot bigger to be able to tighten it up a wee bit more but wanted to see what others have done. 1. A simular fix to get it to tighten 2. Replaced with a new standard one. 3. Replaced with a new after market one 3.a. How good or otherwise was the after market one 3.b. Would buy again if you need to replace Many thanks :YellowCrazy_J8GDC6: |
well if its just the internal splines on the changer that are worn i'd buy a new one. gen Yam,
if its the external ones on the shaft then you're in for a repair bill that will smart a bit either way there is no magic fix, its a 2 mins check to prevent it, they do come loose |
I've had two Yamaha ones go wobbly in 33,000 miles. Got a Touratech one to go on now, will see how it goes.

The TT lever is 37.49 + Shipping,
I too have been through a few levers, this one is at the end of it's life so a TT one is the next step, but I'd be interested to here UT's thoughts on the TT option... ??:idea1: |
The Yam one is only about a fiver cheaper.
First impressions, the TT one looks and feels much more solid. Can't really deduce anything about how it's going to last. Ask me again in a year. (Of course it's also better that the lever spline wears rather than the gearbox shaft spline - but it would be good if it wore slightly slower!) |

I'm using the short, folding gear lever from OTR.
Changed the original alan screw for a haxagonal with counter nut - no more problems: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...0/DSC04829.JPG |
