front suspension setting

Hi

My front suspension is standard. But from looking at photos of other peoples bikes ive noticed they have clicked in/down the Preload (think its that, there allen key bolts on top of the forks?)

Have noticed the front end is a tad bouncy, so any advice on settings?

Cheers

Bouncy, sounds like too much preload maybe (or your damping has gone)? Soft and soggy/loads of brake dive would be too little? Difficult to gauge what you're feeling without riding.

I started out with 6 turns in from fully out (min preload) on the forks when the bike was new, but by 10k miles I was up to 20 turns in (out of 27), suggesting the fork springs go off over time. I notice from pics on the forum that a fair few bikes seem to be running about 20 or so turns in on standard fork springs, just as you have seen. Probably best for you to check the static and rider sag to see if preload (and springs) are right for you. I found with stock suspension and me at 85Kg about 65mm rider sag and 45mm static up front was about right. Here's a thread regarding setting sag...

BTW I no longer have OE fork springs or shock - says it all I suppose!

thanks for that.

Spoken to a few Ten owners and seen a few parked up that all have them wound in around 10 clicks, seems quite a common adjustment on standard forks.

Will upgrade front and rear at some point but not just yet as the bikes only done 4K and ive only just got it.

What about the rear? i noticed the colar on my shock as been turned one click/notch in from fully out. in gear im guessing im 80kg - 85kg.

Sounds like the rear preload is still on factory setting 2nd notch (from lowest) of preload from what you say? If it that is the case, I would not be at all suprised that you're running low at the rear. (Of course I could be interpreting your description the wrong way round!) Mine was too saggy on the 2nd position, even when it was new (and as you've noticed I'm no heavyweight). Soon found the need for 4 clicks, then 5, then 7 and then... a new shock!

Get a tape and set the sag - best point to start with.

altered the front a bit.....thing is there is no "click". it just turns with no indication (like my old fazer shock did with rebound).

Wound them in about 10mm i think, had a ride a thought it felt better. might go a touch more....little at a time :)

mines done 5.5K and will no doubt have to go with new suspension at 10 - 12K. best get saving :)

Save yourself some time, just wind the rear preload up to the maximum now and be done with it :D

i must admit i find suspension abit of a mind field. Gonna wind my front in a tad more but definitely feels better than when i first got it with stock settings.

As i said in my other post though my front end doesnt "click"... it just turns sweet as a nut, so all this "count the clicks" is impossible :icon_pale:

NO clicks mate.:smilies0330:
