Insurance Time Again

Just a quick one, my insurance quote came this morning and it's gone up quite considerably, ( currently with Bennetts ) 204 fully comp

Rider 43
24 yrs riding
7 yrs NCB
bike garaged etc etc

Just a general pol what you guys are getting recommending for insurance.

I recently had to change my insurers so I could get a green card for Morocco. I paid 215 for fully comp for the XTZ and FJR1300 with Carole Nash, which includes European breakdown and recovery but not the card (I'm 61, never had a claim). Seemed pretty reasonable to me, compared with what I had been paying for the 2 separately (Hastings wouldn't do multibike policies at the time), although I've heard of a few who are disenchanted with CN.

Age = 43. Live in very low crime postcode. Bike kept chained to railings in communal car park (flats). Back to bikes only 2 & a half years ago, so still no NCD. I have 12 years NCD on cars - don't know if this makes any differrence.... Anyway, my insurance with Just Bikes last September was around 280 comprehensive. I expect it to eventually go down assuming I don't claim......
Only advice: come renewal time - shop around & compare!

I got a quote from Benetts for the Z. 80 fully comp. All mods declared and IAM.

I think they made an error somewhere.......

jimmysimpson 02-04-12 23:23

I got a renewal fae Bennets for 120. Did the moneysupermarket thingy and got it down to 77 with Budget. But then am an old kent. lol

mash101 03-04-12 15:20

seems some of you are getting very good deals here. I commute, store my X outside (under rain cover & locked with whacking great chain), in communal car park. I do around 8k miles pa. Does a garage & non-commuting really help that much?
Maybe this explains my relatively high premium???

mudrock 03-04-12 22:02

I am with ebike,
Gsx1400,fz8,and xt660x, all with many mods, 170 fully comp. But I am over 50.
Good luck on choice.

Carol Nash with me are also expensive, although I do feel you get what you pay for with insurance. The bottom line to ask yourself is, is it worth the differenced to me? If the bike gets totalled or stolen, is the hassle worth 200-300 ?

Then again, with our type of bikes, riding where we do, how many people would claim anyway?

I put the TTR with the cheapest available, it's a second bike and used on the trails, if it gets nicked then it's not a great problem (still got the Ten), if it crashes I'll sort it out myself - so cheap is OK, to someone who likes their bike shiny, needs it, or it's their daily transport, then paying a bit extra to take away the inevitable fight when you claim, is worth the cost.

Expensive isn't bad, just different.

Fozzer 08-04-12 09:10

E bike have just quoted me 155 fully comp. protected NCB etc etc, I have got it cheaper with other companies but I've never of heard of them.
Looks like ebike will be the winner, but going to ring Bennetts on Tuesday just to see what they can do....

collydug 26-04-12 21:59
