Regulator/Rectifire
Hi all
About these regulator/Rectifire problems with the xt660z. I would like to sort mine out before it goes, what's the best thing to do to stop it before it happens and if pics are available that would be even better. Cheers SPOOKYAD |
Check the connector and terminals. Make sure its snapped home properly and use some dielectric grease on reassembly. Then pray! ;)

Everything!

Go for a 10 mile ride, stop the bike & make sure there is no heat build up in the wires at the regulator, if the wires are warm/hot to touch replace the terminals in the electrical connector, apply dielectric grease.

Loom and Rectifire replace, today 4 years after my Tenere was built, and all covered by Yamaha Warranty:-)
The work will be completed next week, meanwhile i'm running on a black Tenere (free of charge....) Today the shop started to strip down my bike to replace loom and rectifier http://iloapp.ilindstrom.se/data/_ga...049&height=784 Old Connector, notice that the yellow frame is missing, it has melted together with the rectifier... http://iloapp.ilindstrom.se/data/_ga...049&height=784 New Loom :-) http://iloapp.ilindstrom.se/data/_ga...049&height=784 New Rectifier http://iloapp.ilindstrom.se/data/_ga...049&height=784 Old Rectifier (with the yellow frame from the connector.. http://iloapp.ilindstrom.se/data/_ga...045&height=784 |

That 5 year warranty is a double edged sword, we have it here in Norway too. On one hand I want to fidget around and learn to fix things on the bike myself, but on the other hand since we have 5 year warranty we may as well use it :D
Chili, how did you first notice the regrect was failing? |
Rec/reg
Just read this and vary Intresting,That yamaha replaced all your Loom and rectifice Chili,Mine burnt out last year and i was just out of Warranty and i had to pay something towards replaceing This and fit it Myshelf! which was easy But am Hopeing ,it will last .So far all is well .
Look out for any Burning smells and check the Reg /yellow connector. |
Tacomoto: You right there, there is a couple of mods that i would like to do but if i do that it would ruin my Warranty, the only thing that's ok is to put on slip-on exhaust... and my bike was in traffic for the first time 2009 so my Warranty is covered to 2014...
About the regulator, it's really easy to find out if you have a pocket instrument (multimeter that can measure Volt). When the engine is running it should charge between 13.8-14.4Volt (but most likely 14.2v) If it is below 13.8 you have a charging problem. When i was checking my bike i had a new battery and when i started the engine the battery dropped to 11.9v, tried with another battery and it was the same result 11.9v with engine running. If it is the connector to the regulator that is broken you will se that the inside is burned or has misscolored pins. |
