OTR or SWM qiuck lock rack for Peli cases

I can get a pair of 25liter cases similar to pelican for just 80€.

My plan is to use luggage racks from "off the road"

Do you think that SW-Motech Evo rack will work together with the quick-lock adapter for Hepco-Becker plastic panniers?

Or the OTR rack together with the mounting kit for alu panniers?

If both would fit I prefer the SWM qiuck lock system as I may get the TraX panniers in another life when I've become a billionair.

By the way... here's my bike

I don't see it as an option from your point of view, but should consider H&B... clearly better than SW... I haven't seen OTR but H&B vs SW is clearly H&B from my point of view.

cheaper options still

Just buy soft luggage and a roll of gaffer tape (if case they get ripped).

or plastic jerry cans.

The SWM rack system works well in practice, but is not as strong as others. The weak point is the rear stay, which attaches to the number plate bracket. It does not go straight from one side to the other and in a fall will bend outwards and rearwards, and as it is attached, will push the mudguard assembly out causing damage. The one OTR rack I've seen looks impressively strong (20mm tube). For price/strength combo though you can't go far wrong with the Holan rack.

Well, I do like the ida of soft luggage, lightweigt, cheap, and not as bulky as boxes. But I have tried soft luggage (oxford sports panniers) and it's not for me. I want to have waterproof luggage that can be locked to the bike. Therefore boxes. The alu-panniers are all very expensive, often to large and not that good looking. That's why I like the pelicase version.

Thanks for the info about SWM weakness.

The Holan rack looks really good. I might go for that. But I can not find any fasteners as spare parts to fit the boxes to the rack. Is there a solution to this? I know a lot of people do combine different makes, so there has to be a way?

You can either use their mountings which are on the page with the Nomada cases (see the price list at the bottom of the page)... http://holan.pl/en/product/245/395/2130/NOMADA_cases or Touratech ones

Try GIVI???? http://www.givi.it/Side-hardbags/
Quality is good but they are not cheap.

pelican case

you can also get various sized Chinese copy pelican cases sometimes on ebay really cheap. I got a small one for a camera case and it is definitely moisture proof (but maybe not waterproof to 1 metre as are the genuine items.)

I hope that OTR can supply a kit to mount "whatever type of cases" to the SWM quick-lock EVO rack. I do like the ease of attaching the cases with that system. And as it goes for robustness... -If it is good enough for that guy travelling down through Africa and this guy struggeling to get his F800GS unstuck --- LINK --- Then it will be good enough for me.

FIY
Farnell in Sweden offers a pelicase "copy" that isn't cheap enough. But on th UK site it is less than half price.

Finished product!

I wanted to give you an update with the finished product.

I went for the SWM quick-lock EVO pannier racks, from OTR.
Made the easiest mount possible with 4 M6 bolts from the inside of the case through the EVO rack. I think the result is great for the cost of 370 Euro. The cases are slim on the bike, sturdy and waterproof and doesn't look too bad.

Low-tech fastening system. There are two pieces of metal bar inside the case.

78cm wide is slim, for hard luggage. On the other hand they are only 18 liters each, which I guess will be ok combined with a medium Givi top case, and possibly the camping gear strapped to the passenger seat.

Excellent idea and well executed.:115: The volume is about the same as my Metal Mule panniers but considerably cheaper and I bet much much lighter.
Well done that man.

Are you happy with the size of your panniers? I am a little worried mine might be on the small side.
