Slipping clutch, high gear, high revs
The clutch on my 40k km Ten has recently started slipping badly above 4k revs in 4th and 5th gear, and only when the engine is hot. It's got so bad that it now difficult to accelerate at all in these gears.
I thought it might be crappy oil, but a change has produced no improvement. Knackered clutch? Anything worth checking before I start looking for a new clutch and someone to change it? Cheers all, JD --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=4.470599,101.377939 |
Clutch cable adjustment.
I would not ride the bike with a badly slipping clutch, the clutch plates can break up & block the oil pump pick up or restrict the oil filter flow & cause further damage. If you have to ride the bike then try & change gears so the clutch does not slip, fit new clutch plates & springs, check the metal plate as well. |
Check clutch cable adjustment and lube, and if that's all good then pull the cover and check the condition of the plates. at 40k I would expect to see wear to at least the friction plates, if not the steels.

Thanks for the replies.
The cable is all good, so I guess I need to get the clutch looked at. I'm not keen on taking my clutch apart in the middle of nowhere, but I'm only about 250km from Kuala Lumpur so I'll find a mechanic there. Cheers, JD |
