New rear

Just ordered a new Heidenau K74. Time will tell if it's any good. The last 2 were Karoos which were good on tar, quite good on soft, good on medium to hard and crap milage.

Hi Jimmy
How much were you paying for ther Karoos? and what mileage were you getting?

BTW I got a transalp. Fine & worthy sort of bike, but still use the XTR every day. The transalp's for holidays & back & too from here to Hull... which it's very good at.

Yeah, I agree with your assessment of the Karoos. I had them on a 2006 TE610, and I ditched the rear after only 4500km (not miles). That is bad :087:

I was paying 65 for a karoo and got 1500 to 2000 miles from them at which time they were useless in soft wet stuff. The Heidenau is 61 and testing will start next week. I'll keep you guys imformed on it's progress this being valuable info on the quest for the golden tyre. lol.

My last bike was a Transalp 700. Really nice bike but too road orientated for the stupid situations we find ourselves in up here in the North of Scotland. lol

The best scource I've found in the UK for tyres are Openeo followed by mytyres.

Fitted and tested the K74 today. Off road it grips like a motocross tyre. lol. It moves around and bites like hell. Soft muddy is a breeze. Hard and slippy, just let it move around and it will soon find something to grip on,even in slippy river beds. Tarmac ?. Well what to do ideally is take it off road first, then once you get used to it moving around, take it on tarmac. ha ha . It feels like you have a rear puncture. lol. The blocks are deep and soft like an overdose of silica. I like it. Puts a smile on my face and I'm sure it'll settle down soon. :applause:

Well, 2000 miles again from the K74. Sweet off road . Ordered a Mitas C09 so we'll see what happens with it. Again, I'll report the findings.
