you can report on hoew they feel at 108 mph he he would be interested to know how it goes if you fit one Heidenau K74 is a motocross tyre designed specifically for off-road driving. With a speed rating of "˜S', this Heidenau offers high performance and good vehicle handling on rugged roads. The tyre's aggressive block profile along with the evenly spaced tread blocks enable self-cleaning and mud evacuation. The shoulder knobs promise excellent cornering stability, sidewall protection and good traction. The thick sidewalls prevent external damages and reduce the risk of external deformations. Also, the hard tread compound is geared to meet off-road riding. Heidenau K74 is a tyre made for the adventurous rider. http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/7376/heidenauk74.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-10-28 Tyre Type: Motocross tyres Size: 130/80 R17 TT Load I.65 Speed I.T |
ive been dabbling with the 644 army specials
at first they were a bit alaming in the wet and react to tar lines hoorribly .....but using yor eyes and some common sense there not to bad especially when you get the little strandy bits worn away ive done about 1200 miles on them now and am getting used to them they improve with wear and although still feel strange perform quite well chugging along on the tarmack ..in the dry now im bobbing along pretty well in the wet ..i think [famouse last words ] i understand whats available and am pretty comfortable up to 60mph ..less lean ectect if any one wants a reference point ..im quite happy at 70mph on the motorway in the dry and 60mph in the wet ... thats me i wouldnt like to go much faster .. that said the speed rating is 80mph ...so its pretty much in line with what you may expect if your not bothered about high speed and can slow down and in the wet ..i quite like them as a winter trail tyre ..ecpecially at 50 quid really grippy in the boggy stuff too ..huge grip in the ****e they are pretty exteam but i know you do a lot of off road .. you could do worse http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/8104/photo0203x.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-09-29 http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6548/photo0207au.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-09-29 http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/7348/photo0202p.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-09-29 in fairness to the tyres ive done about a fair bit of travelling on tarmack they have shed 4/5ml in 1200 miles but do start at 16/17ml [they look like a feckin hedgehog ] should be a pretty usful trail tyre up to 2000 miles ... there is about 13ml left and if you are not doing much tarmack they would have had more for 50 quid i cant knock em for mostly off roading wear at 1200 miles but ive travelled a bit to get to the trails .. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2457/img2354kk.jpg By minkyhead at 2011-10-26 |
Ha ha, thanks for that Mink buddy. Army specials might be on the shopping list if nothing else but the entertainment factor. Still keen to try a K74, after all, it's all to do with the quest for the tyre that suits the purpose. Last two rears have been Karoo and are very good on tar and most trails but not the best at mud clearing, bout the same as a TKC in that respect. The down side is wear, the compound seems to be a tad soft. Got the thing stuck on a wet grassy slope yesterday.

yup thats sure having trouble ..im sure theres a tyre under there somwhere ..
the armys arnt too bad when you get used to them and would deffo be at home in that picture please let us know how the k74 fares |
Still undecided. Mefo stonemaster looks pretty. lol
|
The front has been magic. A Michelin T63. The ratio is 3 rears to one front but then the Karoo doesn't have a long life. lol.

K74 is very grippy off road and high speed cornering is easilly achievable but don't try the same on tarmac. Lifespan will be short I think.

Well, the K74 is a sweet tyre, Top class off road but tarmac wears it out quick as happens with all knobblies mileage will be around 2000 as per normal but would use again because it works. Just ordered a Mitas E-09 which might give more wear and tar grip but probably slightly less grip in the sh1t. Trellesport say the self cleaning is very good and it's an excellent compromise tyre. I'll keep you posted.
