Centre Stand and 2 others

Ola ladies and gentlemen, looking to get a centre stand(one of the many mods i`m now planning), and was wondering how easy/hard it is to fit it yourself? Any special tools required or is it a doodle? Yamaha dealer have yet to come back to me regarding a quote.

On another question, I`ve only done just over 2000 miles on the bike but am now over the 6 months limit. You recommend hanging on till 6,000 miles or should i get one anyway?Been quoted 170 at the dealers.

Talking of Yamaha dealers, this is one for the Scottish riders. I now live on west coast of Scotland and i`ve always assumed that I need to ride back to the dealer i bought the bike from. Only problem its in Edin, nearly 4 hours away so on top of the cost of a service its getting a bind. Are there any Yammy dealers or decent bike garages over towards the west that I could use to get my book stamped properly?

I got the OEM centerstand and didn't bother to put it on myself since I was going to the dealer to pick it up anyway... doesn't seem to be hard if you know how to handle the springs or have a proper tool for that... once they are extended I recommend the coins trick but it's not the case in a new install... I messed with some springs on a slip-on exhaust on another bike and it was quite hard with just raw force.

XT660Z maintenance chart is for 10,000 km / 6,000 miles or yearly after the first revision. Earlier oil change can't damage anything and is not that expensive. I did oil changes around the middle of the interval but still got the gearbox fscked :)

As far for servicing where bought... don't think that's required anywhere in the world...

The SW Motech fitted easily enough but the instructions could have been better. Only one spring is shown but it comes with two (of different size) and both have to be fitted (as I only found out via xt660.com).

THe OEM one is dead easy to fit and wont take long. Use a long handled screw driver to ease the spring over the pin.

The best tool for the springs is the T handled hook you get for exhaust headers on motocross bikes etc and you'll find this a a ....... yup, motoX shop.

...or a tent peg puller, same thing, but way cheaper!

here's an idiot proof method.....

Take a handfull of coins, 2 Pence coins (UK) are perfect.

Before even attempting to put the spring on the bike, bend it, then in the gaps put the coins. Then bend it the other way, put the coins in the gaps.

What you are left with is a spring long enough to fit without danger to fingers, bike or eyes! Put it on the bike and with a pair of plies start to remove all of the coins. As each coin is removed the spring shortens.

Sorted.

(the small inner spring is easy enough to pull with screwdriver/pliers etc.
