Question about gearing
Can somebody please advise me on which way to go should i change the front sprocket to a 16 or change the rear to a 43 as i am looking to change the cruising rpm of the bike normally ride about 80 ish has anyone done this and what were your findings ??

I changed the rear two 3 teeth lower than standard (ie 42 teeth from the standard 45) which is the same as going one up on the front.
Acceleration is affected a small bit but not much really. Before the standard gearing would at 70mph indicated only be around 64-65mph on gps, where as now with the non standard gearing at 70mph indicated it will now show around 68-69mph. Before changing the gearing i couldnt sit at 80mph indicated due to vibs etc etc but not i can sit at an indicated 80mph which is really around 78mph no bother, the vibs are still there but not as much as before. |
That might be the easiest way to change as i will soon need a rear tyre so will get a new sprocket at the same time .Did you have to alter the chain length (remove a link) or will the adjusters take out the extra slack??

Here is a good tool I use for gear ratios, choose your bike then play with different gear ratios to see what changes it makes.
