OTR bashplate problem

Gents,

I just installed the OTR bashplate and found out it is way to close to the waterpump and engine side

What I eventually want is like here on the OTR site , the plate and bracket mounted , but with my bashplate there is 3-4 mm left , and at the other side only 1 mm space left

here the pictures from off the road to see the clear difference

anyone with OTR bashplate who can check and comment here ?

I mailed OTR as well to see what they have to say about it ,

I double checked with friend of me and also he said there is no other way to attach everything together so it must be "as designed" but then the design is not really good here I think

thanks

Looks like a neat fit, but can't see this protecting your water pump though..

I reckon this is just manufacturing tolerances - it is a bent and welded plate, so maybe you can give it a gentle 'tweak'?

tolerance , ok , but not 2cm in difference I guess ..., it should just be right when you pay 130 euro for something

I put an OTR plate on my XTR. Same problem with waterump. I gave it a good hard tweak (bend) and it is now fine. They look strong but bend and dint quite easliy. Next time I will get one from b@b offroad. They are thicker and super strong.

This is the competition marketed by Adventure-spec. It is heavier but my requirement was to have protection to both the Waterpump and the Alternator cover.

Hi Kemizz - mine was a pre-production one admittedly... I'd suggest what enduro374 says - if you are sure the brackets are lined up correctly, then I found sticking the tip of a jemmy bar between the bashplate and the engine case and GENTLY levering it outwards should give you a few more mm of clearance...

As I recall, the spacers for the front mounting bracket are handed left and right (the are a few mm different), so do check you've got these round the right way...

I had the same problem. It was the front mounting plate, they get them made somewhere else and mine was folded wrong, maybe someone has mixed some of the faulty batch with the real batch?

I wouldn't get all hung up on protecting the water pump, unless you plan to be alone in the middle of nowhere. I just don't get why people spend $$$$$ to protect a fairly cheap part. Belive me, when i say we rode some very rough stiff in portugal and the otr plate is great, it take alot of punishment and provides ample protection.

I think it is more cracking the casing than the actual pump itself? but I tend to agree with GULGo - it is not especially vulnerable unless you are really unlucky...

I rode my Tenere all over the USA (Moab, Rubicon, Trans-Am Trail) with the stock [plastic!] bash-plate, and Heroes-Legend with the OTR plate...

I'd be much more concerned taking a BMW GS off road and nurfing a cylinder head!
