Oil change
Just changed oil to semi synthetic,
about 3-4 litres came out (that was including undoing the second sump plug in the frame) made it look like the bike was having a wee. and about 3-4 litres has gone back in, this was all filled up through the dip stick hole by the tank. and the oil filter changed. dont have a manuall, so does that sound about right to you pro XT'rs?? you dont have to fill up anywhere else do you or is there anything that i have missed? thanks alot, Iain:017: |
My service manual, for a Tenere, says 2.6 litres with a filter change. Are you sure you haven't filled it up? The XT, being dry sump, can be a bit tricky to get the level right, you have to put a bit in, run it for a bit, then put the rest in. I would have thought XTZ, XTX and XTR take a similar amount though.

XTX/XTR manual specifes 2.6 also.

I agree. Just make sure to run your engine properly on a wee spin round the block, let it settle for about 2 mins then check the oil level with the bike standing up level.

You're supposed to put a certain amount in, let the bike run for a minute or two so the oil works it's way around including the filter, then bung the rest in.
I've not done it myself :D but that's what the way it was done at the stealers & I'm sure it I heard off here like that too! |

Ther is a big differance between 3litres and 4 litres, 3 would be to much and 4 is waaaaaay to much, i would drain it down a bit and then re check, you will blow your seals and wreck the catalyst with to much oil in the motor Hope this helps you v-tec |
