Datatool Alarm

Hi all,
recently got myself a new Ten. It was a showroom demo bike, never riden. It had all the accessories on, non of which i purchased. The dealer took them all off, except the alarm. It is a Datatool S4. As i didn't get charged for it i thought 'Thank you very much, i'll have that'.
Here is the problem:
You press the button and the bike is fully alarmed. Fine. You press the button again and the bike is not alarmed anymore. Fine. For 45 seconds when the the bike realarms itself. This means that, after stopping and turning the ignition off you can spend 45 seconds on the bike before you set off the alarm. You can also turn the movement sensor off but you have to arm the alarm first and then press another button. If you turn the ignition off and leave the key in, wait 46 seconds, and turn the ignition back on the alarm will go off.
Now then. Are all alarms such a pain and impracticle? Has anybody else one of these? Can you turn the swine off? (tried to disconnect only to set it off again and the bike stays immobolised! That is why the dealer never took it off!!!)
Got a lot of bits and pieces to go on the bike but the alarm keeps going off.
And to top it all i told my insurance that an alarm is fitted to the bike, expecting a better rate. Nothing, nill, nichts, not a sausage off. Why bother with the hassle?

If anyone can help turning it off, please.

Rob

I'd take it off the bike all together.I had nothing but problems with a datatool alarm and even got stranded halfway on a rideout when the immoboliser wouldn't turn off all together. You're far better off with a decent chain and lock.

When I had my alarm fitted I was told it wasn't one that goes off in petrol stations, so maybe you cannot alter it. But I'm not sure.
Mine is a metasystem, the immobiliser kicks in after a minute but you have to arm the alarm manually every time.

Determined thieves equiped with a van and a few accesories won't be hindered too much by an alarm.
Some people have too many balls.. my chinese delivery man got his car window smashed and the money nicked from his car while me and the delivery man watched from the comfort of my drive!) My last bike was attempted stolen by 3 youths when there was 5 of us in my house at the time, with the back door open and a german shepherd! cut through my chain smashed my ignition and had the bike on it's way up me drive. D-lock and Dog to thank that time. they ran off. The dog followed. ;)
D-lock, Disc-lock, Chain and homemade anchor, alarm, in a nice solid shed/garage I built and I still worry when I'm away from my XT.
I've seen these.. http://www.almax-security-chains.co....oducts/c-1-73/ The 19mm looks awsome.

I've found that most anti theft devices if declared haven't reduced my premium so I don't bother telling them, but If you do disarm or remove it, tell the insurance company. You might not get a discount if it's fitted but you might find that they increase the excess if it is stolen or vandalised and the alarm wasn't set.
