XT660R Rear Rack..what are the options?
I found a Hepco and Becker one, and a SW Motech one...and there is of course the Yamaha one, but are there any others I could consider?

You have also GIVI/KAPPA rear rack

What about the Peatbog one?

Keithy i think these are suppose to only be for the Z which has a preformed rack on it.

I just about managed to read the thread title....X.T.R :smacksforehead: Never seen one so I beg forgiveness:056: I only have eyes for the Z....although the price is a tad alarming! |
I wanted a rack - quickly - when I bought my R for the commute. Tried to get a Givi. D&K sold me a kappa for a lot less monies (takes a GIVI box), then even nipped to the importer so I could go and get it same day. It's excellent quality BUT ONLY ANY GOOD FOR A TOP BOX, I'd prefer a tubular rack if I was going anywhere so as I could get a big hold-all on. It's been ideal so far though.

Thanks for the input so far, I agree that the tubular racks are better for my uses.
So I have a choice of OTR or Hepco and Becker. I like the H&B the most....I would do...its the most expensive one! |
if you want a flat rack only, GStry in SA have solution for the XTR/ XTX, even the XTZ one looks beautifull and works like magic.

Hepco and Becker Rear Rack
Well, I have been lucky, and found a Hepco and Becker Rear Rack hardly used for sale.
Here it is:icon_cheers: http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_0953.jpg |
..and whatsmore, some very nifty Hepco & Becker Pannier Racks (that attach by seven Dzus-like fasteners, so the panniers and rack can come off in a matter of seconds)....AND some soft panniers, AND a Hepco & Becker Top Box (which is also quick-release, I will use it for local shopping) AND a Touratech Sump Guard (which I haven't fitted yet)...a result? What do you think?
I have been insired by JMo's "Packing Light" thread, and for touring I will not use the top box, but two dry bags..... http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_0949.jpg http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_0950.jpg http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_0951.jpg |

I got some of the Ortlieb bags, and had a "pretend" load up for a trip at the weekend and a ride-out.
I basically cribbed JMo's idea of a Rack Pack (31ltr) and a 35ltr Dry Sack. ALL my camping gear went in the Dry Sack...JUST! (ideally the next size up would be better) (Tent, footprint, mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, cooker, 3 pans, washing-up stuff, gas cannister, oil and coffee, mug, plate, knife and fork, lantern, etc.) And my clothing including hiking boots went in the Rack Pack easily. (4 t's, 4x underwear, sweatshirt, thermals, wash bag, towel, trousers, etc.) with room for a jacket I think. So, I now have a fully-flexible luggage system, with those bags, the panniers and top box. I can now carry so much more!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a ride with it loaded up like this, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I don't think its all THAT heavy.....I put the heaviest bag on the rear seat. http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...IMG_1027-1.jpg http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_1025.jpg |
