XTX Special Paint Job
Ok, I was going to sell my spare XTX panels but have decided to use them for a special on off paint scheme. I have not decided as yet what that is but for insipration I am looking at the photoshop ideas Badga did a few years back.
As I already have the panels the only thing this is going to cost is a little paint and effort. Options below are (but if you have an idea then please post): Military - stencilled with Yamaha and XTX http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...hp?imageid=492 Urban Camo http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...hp?imageid=491 Normal Camo http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...hp?imageid=488 Stealth Matt Black with Yamaha & XTX stencils only http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...hp?imageid=474 |
the top one I like the most....
|
Voted other - I like the big tuning fork logo on the rad shroud but with a 50th anniversary Yamaha scheme, the yellow/black squares thing :)

voted for normal camo, but also like urban camo
for my own bike i'd go trad Yam speedblocks want this on mine http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...peedblock3.jpg but like the idea of fluoro camo kind of opposites together or what about getting the panels wrapped in a paul smith logo stripe? http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2.../paulsmith.jpg |
What about "Fast" Eddie Lawson Yellow Speed Blocks

I like the military one at the top just don't go planning any road trips to Vietnam or Libya :-)
|
Stealth with little or no decals  I was going to go matt when I first got the bike but never got round to it. Stabak had a fine example with an ace of clubs etched on.
If you go camo why not try using a vinyl wrap, probably works out cheaper and easy to remove. |
You like Fiat and Italian cars right? How about the....
Italian Job? http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...660/Italia.jpg |
Cheers for the responses so far. I like the idea of the matt black and possibly with some sort of Yamaha speed block design, simple and subtle. Nothing too fussy.
Keep the ideas coming as I am in no rush to get it finished as I plan to do this over the winter whilst the bike is off the road in the thick of winter (not as if it really matters as the panels are spares and it only takes a couple of hours to swap). Gotta keep riding it now whilst the road salt is not around! |
i also like the speed blocks. on mine i've got them togheter with the Yam-logo:

Not sure they all have there pros and cons.
I would say i one off paint job of your own thoughts:) |
Matt black always says to me "I'm a high school student and crashed my bike so I painted it with a spray can to look like a cool Harley custom" :D
That orange one up there is the goods too! |

] Dont get me started on 350 LC's i have 9 of em just looking for number 10 as a project |
The stealth version looks the easiest to do as a novice. So decided to give one panel the treatment and see how I get on. I painted the rear section matt black and did not like how it turned out so refinished it in satin black to give it that dull sheen look and really pleased with the first effort. Just got to sort out some stencils from work and can stencil on the Yamaha decal on the rear part.
More to follow now I've got the bug! http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0948.jpg http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/SAM_0947.jpg |

I fitted the rear satin black seat cowl and have kept in on for a few days to see if I like the satin black before I commit to prepping and painting the rest. I have to say I dont like it so have put the blue back on.
Gloss black maybe but the matt/satin finish just looked to dull, stealthy but not for me, I am just glad I did not buy the panels! I think I am going to keep the bike with the blue panels on and be done with it. Thanks for all your inputs. |
