Warming up the Ten in the morning
Curious about how long you let your Ten idle before you ride it in the morning.... I normally let it idle for about 3 min.. Then take it easy for the first 3km or so... Then I let go :-)
Is this enough ??? |
I don't warm mine up at all. Just start and go but go easy for 3 to 5 miles. I used to be really anal about warming up but I'm older now and less patient!
|
As long as it takes me to take the chains off or to have a smoke, depending on how late I'm running :)

Just start her up and ride, that is what I do anyway. The oil nowadays is loads better then it use to be.

and besides, the fastest way to get the bike up to temp is to ride it, not to idle it. |
Someone asked a similar question in Kevs section and i think he said after around the time to get your gloves on (about 20-30secs) then riding at 40mph it took 3 miles or something for the oil to get up to fully operational temperature

I start mine up, put muff, helmet and gloves on, then keep it under 4K for the first mile or two.

Let it idle on the sidestand is no good for your engine; just start it and ride it for a couple of miles/kilometers, but don't rev it above 4000rpm. When it's warmed up(I use an oiltemp.gauge RR10) to about 60C, you can rev it up(best is 80C, but the Tenere hardly reaches temps above this, only on hot summerdays in heavy traffic maybe).
