Hi guys! This is probably the first time I'm writing on this forum, though I've been following it for some time now.
I'm a big fan of XT660X and want to buy it used. There's a 2005 model I'm looking to get. My question for Kev is, which one of your mods, if any, can help fix surging on a 2005 model? Thx for your help. |

Hello Kev,
I've bought an a 2nd hand O2 eliminator from someone and tried to fit it this morning only thing is, I've no idea which wires go where and also can I remove the old o2 sensor completely afterwards. |
Thanks Kev! Thanks for the welcome and for the help. I'll hope that it's the 01 ECU and that it doesn't surge too much. But if it becomes too frustrating I know who to talk to. ;)

The eliminator connects to the cooling system & has two wires on it & the O2 controller has 8 wires with 2 connector that connects to the O2 sensor. |

Just a quick one to sing the praises of kevs o2 controller. What a difference. Should have bought one ages ago. Bike transformed. Thanks Kev.

Hi again Kev!
After a lot of searching I finally got me a 2007 XT660X. Woohoo! :D I don't want to bore anyone with details here, but as expected, it's surging. It's not too bad and I'm getting used to it, but it would be nice to get rid of it. Can you tell me what is the latest price for the O2 Controller and for your Fuel Mod? Can those be bought as a set and what would be the price in that case? Thanx in advance! ;) |
PM sent.

I have had a few guys of late not being able to find the O2 controllers on EBay, here are the links:

Fitted the O2 sensor mod. Started the bike to make sure it still ran, and there's this GROOVY green light coming out from under the radiator shroud now.....(from the magic box that Kev sent me)
Kev, I assume this green light means it's working properly. What happens if it shorts out, does the light go out, or does it go RED? |
The Green light is just there to show something is going on when you turn the Key on & you have connected it correctly, it has nothing to do with the actual workings of the controller voltage part of the mod, all the diagnosis is done through the XT's dash, if the O2 controller stops working or there is a problem with the signal from the O2 controller or you have connected incorrectly there will be an engine fault light on the XT's dash or a flash code on the XTz's.
I only have a few XT660 O2 controller left with LEDS, when they are finished there will no longer be LEDs fitted to this mod, the reason why is there has been overwhelming feedback from riders saying the glowing LED attracts to much attention & asking how to remove it or cover it up, I have already made up the next batch of XT660 O2 controllers with no LEDS. The KTM 690 & MT-03 are all running O2 controllers with no LED's. |
Well I'm glad I got one with an LED. It looks like something cool is happening!
|
Love my red led!!
|
We went from RED to Green on the XT's & Red to Orange for the KTM's, I just checked & I had 6 guys complain about the glowing LED over the past 5 weeks. I have 12 X Green LED XT660 O2 controllers left then there will be no LEDs.

02 mod fitted
Just got my mod (only 7 days all the way from Oz)
Fitting was amazingly easy, despite my engine bars. What a quality product (looks like OE gear). However the proof is in the ride! 1. Smoother (jerks have gone) 2. Clutch feathering in slow corners almost eliminated 3. Sooo nice to ride now at part throttle For the record I have stage 1 and 2 filters and a Kev mod Oh yeah the MTC comes tomorrow (single sided stainless) Regards |
Just a reminder guys, my mods can be bought directly from me less EBay fees via PM only, please
do not use the contact us at the bottom of the forums page, contact me via PM.
Fuel mod is still on sale at this link: http://www.xt660.com/site/node/136 Otherwise search EBay from my O2 controllers, Yamaha XT660X XT660R XT660Z XTX XTR XTZ O2 Controller + Fuel Mod Or Yamaha XT660X XT660R XT660Z XTX XTR XTZ O2 Controller |
Guys I am having problems with one of my PayPal accounts if anyone wants any mods please can you PM for all sales until I can get it sorted out.

Having problems downloading my mod instructiosn they can be viewed here:

My little slice on Kev's O2 Sensor and Fuel Mods
If you are not sure whether to get Kev's mods or not, just do it......
I am very new to the XT660 Family, with my stock as a rock 2009 Tenere with only 10 000km on the clock. Loving the bike a lot, but wasnt a huge fan of the surging on fine throttle control. Well.... Kev and this forum have done it all! A very quick 20 minute fix on the throttle cable as per: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...=throttle+grip Then a few very quick PM's with Mr Kev himself and in no time i was installing my two new mods. With both the Fuel Mod and O2 sensor mods done AS PER Kev's easy instructions i was running in NO time. Bike now feels SO much better, i cannot believe it. The throttle control is immensly better in all positions, but at low speeds it is butter smooth. The fuel and O2 mods set as instructed, right off the bat i could physically hear the bikes internals less rattly. Then under load and pulling up a hill, the bike just pulls smoother and spins with ease. These comments were totally my idea to help more of you out there see that with these cheap quick fixes you XT can be all it can be too! Those of you that havent already....GET ONTO IT GUYS and PM Kev to get yours now!!!! Thanks again Kev ______________ *** humanfly159 *** |

So you did not get the o2 controller just the fuel mod and the sensor 02 eliminator mod? Two mods in total? |

If you need more specifics on the O2 Controller have a read of: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...ght=controller Thats why i went the controller. If you need more specifics, have a read on older posts on this thread and you will fnid a tonne of info. Well worth the small effort to fit them. I personally did a little more taping the wiring to almost completely hide both mods. Why? Just because... Looks Factory unless you REALLY know what you are looking for. Are you running any other mods? I have decatted muffler and modded air intake a little. It all helps. Cheers |
FYI the links to the fitting instructions dont work..

I would be interested to find out where to get the Male and female plugs for the Co2 sensor. I reckon by fitting a couple of diodes in parrallel, would drop the voltage enough to tell the ECU it is lean, and hence richen it up a bit!

Fueling.
Hi, Just like to ask, what fuel map does the bike use when not in Closed Loop? Pretty easy to stop the bike from getting into closed loop, if it is dependant on the Temp being 70 deg + But what mapping exists then
|
Yip not hard to turn off the closed loop completely & keep the fan running at the correct coolant temperature, but will need a custom open loop map otherwise the bike will run too rich in the open loop if the ECU is constantly seeing the coolant temp in the warm up faze..
A set IAP & TPS maps tables are used in the open loop for each cylinder, with map bios switch points depending on throttle position. There are two sets for 2 cylinders mapping in all XT660 ECU's as the hardware was shared with other model Yamaha's IAP tables: http://i64.tinypic.com/2j0xovt.jpg TPS tables: http://i67.tinypic.com/10mj0ux.jpg Bios tables: http://i66.tinypic.com/34526hv.jpg |
Fuel Maps
Thanks Kev, The Charts look beyond me? and I do not have a PCV, but was curious what mapping would take place, if closed loop was disabled!
|
Quote:
The ECU will run all the time in the open loop maps if the closed loop is disabled. The open loop maps are IAP (Intake Air Pressure) which is intake pressure readings over RPM measured by the pressure sensor in the throttle intake port & the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) over RPM, which measures the throttle blade opening, these two groups of maps are blended together in the bios tables to form a PWM (pulse width modulated) signal to the injector. The closed loop AFR is taken from the IAP tables + long & short fuel trims + feedback from the O2 sensor targeting 14.7:1AFR for emissions, the open loop tables are ignored when the ECU is in the closed loop state. |
I love your technical posts Kev...I have no idea what your talking about and it may as well all be in german to me!..
The fact that you know what your talking about and that you have the skills to modify things above factory amazes me. You Sir are a LEGEND!! |

I am ready for the new XT range & will get straight onto the remapping of the ECU's when they are released. |
