Temperature and Battery Gauges
Decided to do some more "modding"
I found a digital temp gauge at a local store and it suited my needs perfectly. It shows the temp on the gauge as well as from a small sensor I placed under the headlight surround, Its nice to see the temp difference between in the wind and behind the shield. I also made my own Battery and Alternator gauge, The first 3 lights show the battery level when the engine if off and once turned on shows the alternator output, Handy to spot any potential problems before they occur. I also used some black plastic spray paint on the inside of the screen, It really completes the bad ass look of my Tenere. http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/meter1.jpg http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/meter.jpg http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/bscreen1.jpg http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/bscreen2.jpg http://home.telkomsa.net/edgepc/tenere/bscreen3.jpg Jules |
Another man who loves to play, nice work mate.

Very nice, that is one bad ass looking bike!:tank:
Is the temp gauge waterproof? This is my setup: http://i44.tinypic.com/14n002u.jpg |
Tony, that's a smart bit of kit. Where's it from?? I like the idea of having the temp and battery all in one

Another alternative, which I fitted today is the Gammatronix LED charge/battery level indicator (measures voltage and charging). It's a simple 12mm LED which changes colour according to the charge from the alternator and fits tidily into the fairing sides. I'm well impressed and it was less than a tenner! OK, it doesn't do temperature, but hey...
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...ronixsmall.jpg Amber when there's no charge (ignition on/engine off), between 11.8V and 13.1V http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...ambersmall.jpg Green when the alternator charges at more than 13.2V http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...greensmall.jpg It will flash green/red alternately if there is an over-charge (15.2V or more), flash yellow between 11.5V and 11.8V, solid red between 11.2 and 11.5V and flashes red when voltage falls below 11.2 at the battery. I'd thoroughly recommend one. Available from eBay - search for Gammatronix (there are some others that look similar, but aren't so good). |
Hi there Jules.
Nice mod, will send you PM You are right, that Tenere is the one and only of its kind, Will be on the lookout for you when i am in Randburg area again, do you commute allot.. And when will you join us for ride ? Cheers Gerhard Pta |
HI, I've just bought a Gammatronix LED box. The supplied wires are only about 4 inches long so connecting direct to the battery is out without extending them.
Would it still operate if the -ve is connected to an earth point and the +ve to a switched live, such as heated handlebars.? Or does it need to go direct to the battery. Pleiades , How did you wire yours to the bike ? Steve |
RedDog, any positive and negative connection will do. Mine is wired into the spare auxiliary connector block just under the clocks behind the plastic cover (so is my plug for GPS). As this is connection is live when the ignition is on (and being close enough to mount the LED within your site line) makes it ideal. The other bonus of using this feed for the Gammatronix is it is also live when the key is moved to the park position (sidelights), so it gives you a handy reminder you've gone one click to far when locking the steering, which could in istself save you a flat battery!
If you connect it straight to the battery the LED will be on all the time 24/7, which might be OK as it only draws a piffling few mA, but probably not a good idea. |
Thanks for the link . I have just ordered one for my Honda CX650 Euro. The old Honda has a repution for eating alternators. A simple monitoring system will save the day as the alternator wiring starts to breaks down with age.

Hey Jules,
Those images dont work anymore.... Im really curious about how it looks! I'm also considering having some volt/temp meter on my bike and would love to see your work! :) |
Has anyone tried this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIGITAL-VOLT...d95b92&vxp=mtr ?
It looks like the one "Titbird" has mounted, but this one is water resistans... It has CLOCK, TEMP IN/OUT, VOLTMETER, ICE ALERT AND STOP WATCH! |

looks very reasonable, anyone in the US able to ring them and establish if it's waterproof? |
