Does your tool kit have a 14mm allen key ?

for the front wheel spindle...

Yup, I found the same out here the hard way too!

I carry a sump plug removal tool now that fits nicely.

IT's only 6 on Ebay for the 1/2" drive 14mm... i can live with that.. but really wanted it doing today as i have spare time to get the rubber swapped over today...

Trying to think of any other way i can do it using 14mm nuts and bolts... but my mind isn't coming up with anything. I had a 14mm nut on both ends of a bolt, but obviously when i undo it, it just undoes the nut on outside... not the spindle... must be some way of improvising.....

How about a bolt and 2 nuts.

Lock the 2 nuts together on the bolt thread and then spanner the middle nut against the outside one with the bolt head in the spindle.

Does that make sense ???

(or use the wrong end of a cold chisel or bolster as I do !)

Tried the 2 nuts as you were typing... Nah just to tight mate.

Ordered one on Ebay... but to be honest the front is good, so i'll leave it on and just fit a Diablo rear today :)

I think that is really stupid to build an adventure bike without the proper tools for taking the wheels off. I found out the hard way after I got a flat. Happily I was in the middle of the city not in the middle of a desert or something. So a big minus for Yamaha for this and for the optional centre stand. :angry9:

So, same w. the Tenere no 14mm allen key.

Cheers,

Instead of locking 2 nuts together, just get the nut welded to the bolt, stronger.

A long screw with a 14mm head bended at nearly right angle does the trick. I carry a very short 14mm hex column (cut from an allen tool), and I drive it with the 14mm tool.

Any way, the orig tools are crap.

Have fun,

j.
