getting worried now
Have changed / basic serviced stuff before but just done first oil filter change on my XT, having read the threads here getting a bit worried that I at 3 litres in and no register on dipstick. Have left overnight and no leaks.
Been filling the oil a bit at time so at a loss as to why I have no level registering. Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Paul |

I'm presuming you checked the manual as you're a supporter, I had similar worries myself on the first oil change i did on my XTX as the manual said 2.5L and i needed 2.9L to register on the dipstick. DO NOT check it cold!!!!!!!!!!!! put the 2.5lts in then run the bike to get it hot NEVER NEVER check the oil from cold as it runs down into the frame and does not show on the dip stick!

2.5L, go for a short ride then top up to the correct level.

It feels like a lottery what reading you get on the oil stick. I changed oil, ran the engine, then let it cool for a minute or two - no reading. So I topped with some extra oil, ran the engine again, let it cool a bit. Now reading was at the bottom of the stick. So I topped again, ran engine, let it cool a bit. Now I have no reading again. I don't want to just keep filling because that's what I did yesterday and then I did not get a reading until very suddenly after about 2.9L, then I got a reading which was way over the maximum level.
How does this actually work? When and how can you be sure the reading is correct? I mean how difficult can it actually be??????? |
Hello xt world :) can someone tell me wich reason could be for shutting down engine in the middle of drive ...its similar to shutting off bike on emergency red button.I thinking about that ... maybe somewhere electricity escapes or maybe is something with lock (bad contact) also can be something wrong with emergency button... am i on right way ? In 2000 km this happend to my xtx 3 times ... it's not good feeling ... please someone help me ... because im not expert and i want hear some opinion from you guys. Sry about my eng :)
