That would have beena fantastic bike indeed!.....They missed a chance there for a definate market leader I think.
|
Instead of a 990 killer they designed a competitor for the Moto Guzzi Stelvio:102::gobain:
|
Virtually noone buys 990As anyway... and they are a derivative of a whole range of other bikes KTM already make (and are over 11,000 now anyway)
Yamaha are never going to invest in the development of bike that at best would sell a few hundred units a year... Perhaps if they had just revamped the TDM they could have done it on a budget - but then it would always be considered 'soft' compared to the KTM... If you really want a 990, just buy a 990...?! J xx ps. I agree that Mr Photoshop in the video link did a nice job... however, If they had built something like that (ie basic and rugged) I feel it wouldn't have compared favorably in the GSA market, and would simply be seen as an expensive version of the 660Z? |

IMHO I think that it is simply a direct marketing attack on the Bavarian camp of Bee eeM UU. Clearly BMUU have the large capacity adventure bike category (>1000cc) almost to themselves and Yamaha have launched this product to try to gain market share where they were not represented previously. I do wonder what the world wide market is for the over 1000cc adventure bike is?
The question remains: Will the potential large capacity adventure bike customers be wooed by the Super Tenere? We will have to wait and see ..... However, I am still delighted with my TEN, now just over a year old and serving me well in the urban jungle of Paris ..... plus continental trips (two-up + touratech luggage full to the brim) around and about Europe. |
:-(( .... all i can say is that i am totally dissapointed in what they created.
www.super-tenere.com was one of those websites that made me affraid of opening it another time...spam, virus alert and violations on my pc predicted. think a 800 should have done the trick... GB |

btw. I took my Tenere up the road today (only just finished servicing/fettling it after the rally) and it's a beast! Seriously, if you only ride solo and love the 660 Tenere - open the airbox/DNA filter, PCV and a single (race) can and it is transformed! It might only have a few more bhp (around 10%) than stock, but the way it comes in is in a different league, and it makes the world of difference - that bad boy is rapid now! Jenny xx |
