xt660r oem handlebar vs 7/8 renthal rc
Hi,
any opinion is more than welcomed. Is it worth? Confused with oem measurement. Thanks. |
I replaced the OEM bars on my XTX for renthals and I'm very happy with them. renthal do a whole range of different bar dimensions so you should be able to find something that suits. I went for a bar that was a little shorter and pulled back a little further than the OEM. I think it was the streetfighter model.
I've never dropped the bike but people who have say that the oem are a little on the soft side, bend easy and leave you with an un ride-able bike. Most renthals are the standard 7/8 inch outside diameter so the standard grips, leaver and mirror brackets fit. The main difference is the renthal bars have about double the wall thickness. So they don't bend like cheese when they hit the floor. Because of the thicker wall of the renthal bars your standard bar ends wont fit, so you'll need to get some of these with your renthals. I rate them. |

I go the streetfighter bars which as bishop said are a bit narrower (about 1inch each side i think and are closer to the rider, but i think are also slightly higher up as well. They allow you to sit up and beg more. The bar inner is smaller so you will need something smaller in diameter for a bar end weight. Are they worth there money? seems like it so far. |
Thank you Bishop for your explanation and opinion. My main problem is because I can't find them in any store here and compare different handlebars. Online shopping and making assessment based on pictures and dimensions is what I have. I have decided to go for renthal rc for their sweep and strength, but still leaving some safety margins for absorption of bigger hits (off road, its happen:smilielol:) and protecting triple clamps. I am not tall, but I still would like a little higher handlebar than oem. Thanks again.

Renthal Bars
Try the Renthal 735, this has the same bend as the standard bar, but is 20mm higher, it is also about 5mm (ish) wider. It is a trials bar so the cross bar is shorter. 20mm is the maximum rise that you can get without changing cables etc. The higher bar will allow hand guards to clear the std screen on full lock and give good clearance above the tank. It also makes riding the bike off road (standing up) much more comfortable.

Sorry half asleep, I have the XTZ, you have the R.

Hi Maxwell,
if you are right that streetfighter is slightly higher than oem, than I should be just fine with renthal rc which is about 3cm higher than streetfighter.:051: |

any other goodwill?:protest:

I have fallen off several times in the campo here in Southern Spain mountains and the best protection for the bike has been the inverted passenger grab handles no scratches on my carbons and the Venom (bikeit) handguards. No bars bent, no levers bent/broken - only damage has been the footpeg ripped off on one occasion and the peg hangar plate bent after I had repaired it and beefed it up a bit.
Your money - your choice. |

That could be a problem. My first choice was rc high, but I am afraid too, that cables will be short and decided to go for rc with hope that they will fit well...enough :eusa_whistle:
For now I am trying to sort somehow problem with shipping from www.bandcexpress.co.uk to Macedonia, we are not on their list. Wish me luck and I will post pictures... and dimension of oem handlebar. |
Hi,
here are dimensions of yamaha xt660r oem handlebar: width - 770mm, height - 112mm, sweep - 74mm (or should be). Here are some pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/petrest8...34451911374674 http://picasaweb.google.com/petrest8...34462906775618 http://picasaweb.google.com/petrest8...34466369608914 http://picasaweb.google.com/petrest8...34480002140242 Renthal rc has been fitted without problem. It is better than oem, but renthal rc high is right choice for me (I am 177cm). Next time, if I have chance. PS And streetfighter is 1mm higher than rc, but shorter and with more sweep. |
Ive ran renthals bars fur years,, an dont come off road based bikes muchl, but i do run renthals in my trials bikes and am forever comming off, an renthals to me oin the trials world are soft an bend ever so easy,, so think again, everyone an their granny has renthals... cheers

I just ordered the 722 Renthal bars after mine bent when the bike dumped in the bush today. The OEM bars must be crap, because they bent hella easy. I thought about going with the Twinwall bars, but I didn't know if they'd work with my bar ends and triple clamp. I ordered the Renthal bars from B&C Express, $80 shipped to Australia, not that bad I reckon.
Part No A B C D E CR High/Dakar Medium722 795 95 70 205 62 I hope I don't have any cable length issues with these bars. The 722 is the bar that B&C recommended when you enter your bike details as well. So I reckon these will work fine. |
