xt at last

Well after draging my feet on wether to get a new bike or not (wrote my r6 off three years ago and said no more bikes for me) and what bike to get finally decided on the xt. Decided on the xt because it had a more upright riding position so no pressure on damaged wrist and shoulder, can have fun at a more sane speed considering our shocking roads here in NZ, and running costs maintenance insurance etc.
So after hunting trademe and other sites for about six months found a black 05 with stage one and two filters GYTR pipes power comander and only 11500km with two owners for $6800 so thought that was a good deal only problem it was 200km away, so after talking to the owner and making sure it was as good as he said scabbed a ride up to check it out and hand over the money.
It turned out to be in very tidy condition and after taking it for a ride straight into the country I felt quite comfortable on it, it had great handling pretty good power and I didnt notice any surging at that stage so handed over the cash and rode the 200km home only complaint was a bit of a sore bum so not to bad.
So far i've done about 1000km commuting and motorway riding mostly and have noticed the surging now quite bad. The previous owner had adjusted the co up from were it had been (6 to 30) so I reasoned that the power comander would have been tuned in at 6 so I adjusted it down and it still surged untill I got it down to 6 were the surging has just about gone and the bike is great to ride around town though it does seen to be down a bit on power and running a bit hotter from before so I will have to save up a bit and get it on the dyno to check it out for peace of mind but for now I wiil enjoy it over xmas yah.

Welcome mate, sounds like you got a good buy.

Get your bike on the dyno & get a custom fuel made, this will produce the best result for the surging. Just make sure you block off the AIS before the dyno run.

Have a read here for all XT mods.

thanks for the replys guys and yes it is seeming to be becoming an addiction, I find myself drawn down to the garage at strange times just to look at it and make excuses to go out and get things that I dont really need just to have another ride and now that the sun is shining its just getting worse!!!!

Hi from Tauranga. Was that the XT660X in Dargaville that you bought? Saw it on Trademe, looked like a good buy. Steve

hello and welcome stowemad, youve made the right decision with both the forum and the bike. xt660com is full of friendly helpful people and the xt is FAR better than an r6, i can tell you that from experience.

happy new year stowemad, great choice of bike. I got a new black xtx back start of the year after 30 years of sport bikes and love it. Love your roads in NZ, my son lives in Hawera and i would normally be down to see him and family around now but can't make it this year. Instead suck at home in Scotland, bike tucked up for the winter, looking out the window at 20cm snow and my dear son on skype every other day sitting in the sun with a beer in hand. doh!!!!!

keep it shiney side up, good luck
